 A Bi-Lingual Program for Young Children

Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 12:30.

Statement of Philosophy
     “Children of the Sun” provides a safe and stimulating environment, focusing on the physical, emotional and intellectual growth of each child.  We strive to recognize each child’s individuality in an atmosphere that encourages them to explore, ask questions and experiment in a wide array of learning activities. 

We Honor and Celebrate:

Diversity:  Cultural and linguistic diversity enriches the experience of our children as each child brings his or her own uniqueness to our center.

The environment:  Teaching the interconnectedness of all life forms, we emphasize an appreciation for our environment, modeling for our children the need to respect and be responsible for our good planet earth.  Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Peace making:  We encourage even our youngest learners to practice conflict resolution by using their words and gentleness to communicate with one another.

Beauty:  We are fortunate to have a space that integrates outdoor-indoor play, using our natural setting as a pallet for creating gardens and places of beauty for all to enjoy.

The arts:  Each day we offer experiences in music, movement and dramatic play and experiment with a wide variety of self-expressive, creative “hands-on” art activities.    

Play:  We support children in their use of creative play as a means of discovery, offering a potpourri of active learning experiences where imagination, as well as the building of cognitive skills, is honored and encouraged.

Family:  Whether the child is here for a long or short term visit, each child’s family is integral to the life of our center.  Families are invited to participate in outings and celebrations, sharing individual talents and interests.   

Community:  A sense of community is important to all of us, and especially to young children.  We strive to share our center’s life with the community, and to learn from our neighbors, as well.

The Discovery Learning Center represents a great Sayulita School alternative for anywhere from 1 day to a full year in Sayulita.
