Festival Sayulita VIP screeningFestival Sayulita kicked off for the lucky VIP ticket holders on Tuesday, January 13th at 5:30 pm. This special event took place at Punta Sayulita, a breathtakingly beautiful location on the edge of the bay.

Partygoers stood with their toes in the sand as they chatted with new and old friends. Lit tiki torches lined the perimeter, colorful skulls served as center pieces, and the sound of the waves added to the ambiance. Mouthwatering beef, chicken, pork, turkey and bacon kabobs, vegetable kebabs, mushroom sauce, and a Mexican sauce were prepared by Luka Romano, the owner of Miro Vino. Pastor tacos and quesadillas were also available by Tacos Sahuayo, based in Puerto Vallarta. Esteban Ponce, a bartender from Sayulita Public House, volunteered his time and served up drinks.

A film, “Down Here,” was one of the highlights of the night. Director, Teach Grant, who also wrote and produced the film, as well as played a transvestite in the film, was in attendance.

“It has been 45 days since my last trip to Sayulita and I have been coming here since 2009. In the last 45 days it was like I was wishing away Christmas, wishing away New Years, not focusing on work. All I wanted to do was get back down here because of the way Sayulita has made me feel, and the relationships, the exposure, the culture, and the people. Coming back down here with what it is I do, and the exposure, and myself, it is really nice. I get the opportunity to share back with Sayulita what it is I do and a little bit of my home. I get to share a story about Vancouver and a story that we don't often tell as Canadians, because I guess it is a part of our dark side that we don't want to exploit. I'm really pleased and thankful to be here,” shared TeachFestival Sayulita movie night
