November brings all kinds of exciting events to Sayulita, including my personal favorite, the seasonal opening of the Mercado del Pueblo.  This year of 2018, our own farmer’s market will open on November 2nd, and will hold the same hours as in years past, opening at 10:00 a.m. and closing at 2:00 p.m. The Mercado is lucky enough to remain in its incredible location which offers shade and lots of greenery! As many of you know, the Mercado is open every Friday from  November until the end of April, and can be found on Calle Revolucion, just North of the main bridge. Parking can be found in the campo (the baseball field).

As a visitor, you will be pleased to know that your favorite vendors will be returning, and as always, the Mercado will have a few surprises for you! Yes, the fruit vendors will be back, including our berry person. Yes, blue corn sopas and gorditas can also be found at the Mercado, with your choice of meat or vegetable stuffing. Bread, honey, baked goods, hummus, cheese, meats, cosmetics, and so much more can all be sampled and purchased directly from producers. Furthermore, this year by request we are going to add some additional vegan and vegetarian options!

The Mercado, as we often call it, is the first farmer’s market in the Bahia, and is proud to be the only not-for-profit market in the region. So, go ahead and purchase those amazing local fruits and vegetables and spurge on that amazing home-made sauce knowing that all of the proceeds go directly back into our community!

The Mercado provides space for local not-for-profit agencies to share what they are doing and to sell products that help make them sustainable. This year, El Centro Creativo, Sayulita’s newest not-for-profit organization, will be joining the Mercado. Over the last few years, proceeds from the Mercado have gone to support local cultural events, like the festivities for Dia de los Muertos, and to various green projects in our community, such as the new recycle center.

We hope to see as many of you as possible on the opening day! Come and enjoy the live music while you shop from our local vendors. Be a part of this weekly community event and enjoy eating well!
