The old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” still rings true today and stands the test of time for a reason. Photos have the magical and beautiful ability to preserve memories, tell a story, or capture moments that are fleeting; in essence, photos make all aspects of this impermanent life, permanent. Jenn Farmer, professional photographer in Sayulita, offers a wide range of photography services, whether you are a local business that needs brand photos, or you are visiting Sayulita and you want something to remember your time here, or you’re a family that wants to capture your love and moments together. Jenn is extremely experienced and very talented at what she does; I talk with Jenn and she tells me more about her passion for photography and the types of photos she has the most expertise in.

Jenn, where are you originally from? When and why did you move to Sayulita?

I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but I moved to Sayulita after living in San Francisco, California for about nine years. I have been living in Sayulita on and off for almost five years now, and this year is my first year living full-time.

When did you first discover your passion for photography? Why is it a passion for you?

I discovered photography as my passion about 15 years ago, back in 2004. I am passionate about it because mostly I love to work with light, and also I love to show people the beauty that lies within each of them individually. I think everyone and everything can be beautiful in the right light.

How have you gained experience in photography and learned the different techniques necessary for the type of work you do?

I received an Associates Degree in Commercial and Portrait Photography from the Ohio Institute of Technology and Photography, located in Dayton, Ohio. During and after my studies, I worked under many professional commercial and advertising photographers in both Ohio, and California, as their head assistant. After some time, I branched off and starting shooting for SF Weekly (a newspaper in San Francisco, California), as well as photographing weddings and local events. In 2011, I started working as a freelance retoucher for Old Navy, and by 2013 I started working as a freelance photographer for Gap, where I continued working, along with other clients in the SF/ Bay area, with a main concentration on brand photography. Up until last year of 2018, I was still working steadily with Gap. In 2018, I decided to fully branch into and focus on my own business. I now still have a main concentration on working with brands, specifically clothing brands, but I have also started implying my commercial skills into Couples Photography, as well as Family shoots, Elopements / Small Weddings, Lifestyle shoots, Social Media shoots, Brand, and even Surf Photography.

What would you say is your specialty when taking photos or what you’re most experienced in?

I am most experienced in Brand Photography, specifically clothing brands and Events/Portraiture. I have a heavy background in Commercial Studio Photography, but have moved into almost all natural-light photography in Sayulita, now that I live on the beach; however I still having my studio available when needed.

What are your favorite things to photograph and why?

I love photographing people because I love to show them how beautiful they really are, and I love connecting with new people. Every photo shoot is a new experience for me.

What types of services could you offer a client here in Sayulita (in other words, what sort of photography sessions could clients book with you?)

Clients can book my services for a Couples Session, Family Session, Lifestyle Session, Brand Session (clothing brand or small business branding), Studio Session (e-commerce/head-shots), Small Wedding/Elopements, and Personal Portrait sessions. I also offer mini Social Media sessions as well.

Is there anything else you want readers to know?

I am open for sessions not only in Sayulita, but across the Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta area. I customize my packages to my clients needs whenever needed, I am open to travel, and I can recommend many beautiful beaches and spots for us to shoot in.

Here are a few reasons why YOU should book a photo shoot with ME!

  1. It will make you feel good and more confident about yourself; it's a great experience, and the photos will last a lifetime.
  2. It is a way to celebrate your love shared with another person, or the love you have for yourself!
  3. It's a great gift for your family and loved ones, no matter if you live here or you are on vacation and want to remember your time in Sayulita, Mexico.
  4. It could be the perfect way to celebrate an accomplishment in your life.
  5. Time does not stand still- in fact, it goes by faster than we can imagine; kids grow up and families grow apart. A photo shoot will preserve the memories that are precious to your heart.
