This month’s recipient of Sayulita Life’s $5,000 donation goes towards the 2019 Virgin de Guadalupe Festival in Sayulita, or the “Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe”, a popular religious holiday and festival all across Mexico. Every year in Sayulita, the Sayulita Catholic Church and other volunteers organize a variety of activities and traditional celebrations for this festival. Sayulita Life’s donation of $5,000 pesos will go directly toward helping to fund this year’s festivities, such as the musical performance from the Mariachi band “Los Caporales”, as well as decorations and other items needed for the celebration.

Quiverito Surf Shop in Sayulita is a mindfully curated boutique surf shop located on Calle Marlin, just meters from Sayulita's main beach & break. A laid-back and charming shop, it is a classic "Mom & Pop" type of surf shop, proudly selling handmade, hand picked items, and often playing vintage vinyl on their record player. Quiverito Surf Shop is an essential shop to visit while exploring Sayulita or looking for surf lessons and rentals. Owners Brian and Cristina tell me more about their shop and what makes it unique, in a surf town saturated with places for surf lessons and rentals.

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is coming up so soon? I love this holiday because it gives me the opportunity to make one of my favorite yummy desserts! Traditionally, Pecan Pie with Whipped Cream is always on my menu for Thanksgiving. I realize that many people are intimidated by making a pie crust; so I modified my recipe to make it super easy for you! You can make Pecan Pie Bars, with a delicious shortbread crust.

The verdict is in! I wanted to make a delicious, simple, and easy appetizer that would be perfect for an upcoming home-cooked Thanksgiving meal, or even for a fun dinner party, and I found it! Have you ever made Chorizo Stuffed Mushrooms with melted cheese? I have tasted a few different stuffed mushroom recipes, but have never tasted any with chorizo before. I made these stuffed mushrooms last night because I happened to have on hand the three ingredients that are needed for this recipe. All these ingredients are easily available here in Sayulita. How great is that? My husband and I both agreed that this appetizer is a real winner!

Latitude 20 Restaurant / Sports Bar is a Sayulita favorite amongst locals and tourists alike. Recently, Latitude 20 has undergone a bit of a makeover and has been given some extra love thanks to the new ownership of Teague Kernan. Rest assured, guests can still expect the same great service, diverse menu, the specialty BBQ, and rockin’ live music, but all with a new and improved zest and energy! I talked with Teague about his background in the restaurant industry, some of the changes happening in the restaurant, as well as what’s staying the same in one of Sayulita’s favorite local spots.

This month’s recipient of Sayulita Life’s $5,000 donation is Banco de Tapitas, a private non-profit organization that was officially formed in 2015. Banco de Tapitas uses money earned from their recycling program to provide care for patients battling cancer all over the country, from infants up to 21 year-old young adults. They have several support programs and initiatives, but their most recent project is the creation of a large metal heart-shaped structure for collecting recycling, that will soon be placed in Sayulita’s main plaza; this large structure will not only be a work of art and a beautiful addition to our artistic and vibrant plaza, but it will help to gain attention and encourage people to recycle their plastic bottle caps-- all for the wonderful cause in raising money for sick children and young adults. Sayulita Life’s $5,000 donation went directly toward the purchase of materials to actually create the large metal structure; more specifically, to fabricate a two meter metal structure in the form of heart that will be installed in the main square of Sayulita.

With so many beautiful, charming, and historic homes in our little pueblo of Sayulita, it is easy to become enchanted by the many villas and casitas, old and new, that captivate us with their charm and history here in Sayulita. Casa Nido, a 5 bedroom and 3.5 bath home located at the south end of the main beach, is considered to be one the oldest homes still standing in Sayulita, with origins dating back to the 1960’s. I find out more information about this historic vacation rental, its beginnings, and how it has changed over the years.

Some of our local Sayulita surfers will soon be heading to compete in the Mexican National Surf Games in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, from October 28th, 2019, through November 10th, 2019. These young athletes have been training and competing for a long time in order to be ready for this amazing opportunity. The local non-profit organization Pro Sayulita generously stepped up to help the competitors, by giving a donation to the team to assist in covering some of the expenses of the tournament.
