ARTE & Ceramica in Sayulita is a newly opened art gallery representing the outstanding clay work of artist Patricia Gawle. After 8 years of living and working in Puerto Vallarta, Patricia has moved her home / studio and gallery to Sayulita/San Pancho. Patricia creates her pieces with local clay that she digs in the small mountain town of El Tuito - 1 hour north of Puerto Vallarta. Patricia creates "narrative sculptures" - 3 dimensional art combining clay, found object and original verse to create her thought provoking pieces. Her handmade clay bowls and platters are one-of-a-kind paintings on ceramic, created from her original drawings.
As a BFA, Fine Arts graduate of the Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida, Patricia's spirit of adventure originally brought her to Mexico in the mid-1980's where she remained for 5 years living and working in Mexico City. I felt if I wanted to live in Mexico, I was going to have to work for myself... but I needed experience, confidence and business skills. So she returned to Florida and opened the Plum Door Art Studio & Gallery in the Towles Court Artist Colony in Sarasota where she developed these skills and after 8 years of running a gallery, teaching adult art classes, and building an extensive clientele for her custom hand-painted tile murals, she felt it was time to move on to a new adventure... In 2008, Patricia moved to Puerto Vallarta and opened her studio/gallery there. I looked at Sayulita, San Pancho and Punta Mita then, but didn't think there was a big enough audience for an art gallery... but I kept it in mind, as I have always preferred small town living. In 2014 she re-visited Sayulita and San Pancho again trying to find a place to move my home, gallery and ceramics studio....In 2017 she finally found her place in Sayulita! and opened her gallery: ARTE y Ceramica, and San Pancho where she lives and has her working studio.
Patricia offers one-day handpainted tile workshops and clay sculpture classes in her studio in San Pancho. In addition, every Tuesday and Wednesday she teaches clay sculpture classes in her Puerto Vallarta studio.
