Preventive measures are taken to stop the spread of COVID-19 by Sayulita's Gavilanes Vigilantes as they work 24/7 to block the entrances of Sayulita. This measure was put into place when the citizens of Nayarit were warned that many vacationers from Jalisco were on their way to coastal towns for Semana Santa, ignoring the severity of the Coronavirus pandemic. Since April 5th, Sayulita is only accessible to locals/residents and essential workers.
All vehicles entering Sayulita are met by approx. 15-20 volunteers both day & night. Each vehicle, including local transportation, is examined by the group and either granted or denied access into the town. Although many vacationers have been outraged by the brigade, most applaud this amazing group of volunteers for keeping Sayulita safe & healthy. The Gavilanes have committed to keep access limited as long as necessary.
