If you’re looking for the perfect gelato, homemade ice cream, or sorbet treat to cool down from the Sayulita heat, look no further than Gior yo. With all of the above yummy options to choose from, as well as delicious Mexican coffee, cakes, & pastries, Gior yo is a must-go-to when in Sayulita, and is the perfect spot for a mid-day cool-down snack, or an after dinner dessert. Owner, Jorge, tells me more about what makes his gelato unique.

Hi Jorge! First, can you please tell readers a bit about yourself -- what brought you to Sayulita to open your business, Gior yo?

My name is Jorge García de Alba González, and I am originally from Puerto Vallarta. I was raised in a family in which good food and pastries were the basis and essence of my growth from since I was in the cradle. My great-grandmother and grandmother took my father's family forward with their recipes, and for 30 years worked with what started as my grandmother's dream-- the pastry business. In 2000, an Italian family, originally from Rimini, supported us to start producing ice cream. This is the business that I was born into, I grew up around it, and lived it. My great-grandmother Elisa always said, “all food should close with a good dessert, because the dessert is the gasoline of digestion.”

When did you first open Gior yo?

I opened the business with the intention of honoring my parents, and I came up with the new concept for Gior yo in Sayulita on December 23, 2019.

Can you tell us about the process of how your signature ice cream and gelato is made?

We make the ice cream in Puerto Vallarta in a laboratory with specialty Italian equipment, and all 100% Italian recipes with ingredients originating from Italy, so it is especially authentic.

How do you come up with the ideas for all of the interesting flavors you have?

The most interesting ideas for flavors have always come out thanks to our customers; we try to do our best to give our customers what they want. But in the same way, we like to be able to create experiences by exploring the combination of typical flavors of our land and culture, such as Mezcal ice cream, combined with fruits from the local region.

Which ice cream flavor is the most popular? Which is your personal favorite?

The most popular ice cream at the moment is “Kinder Surprise”, and also “Ferrero Rocher”. I also love the “Red Fruit” and “Passion Fruit” sorbet.

What other desserts and treats do you have at Gior yo?

With our same ice cream we make delicious milkshakes and smoothies. We also have amazing 100% authentic Mexican coffee, made with a mixture of beans from different regions of the country. We also have amazing cakes, cookies, and chocolate truffles.

Is there anything else you want readers to know?
