Sayulita-- are you ready to pump some iron again? SayulitaFit, Sayulita’s first premier fitness center and gym in Sayulita has officially reopened to the community after a six month closure due to Covid. SayulitaFit first opened its doors two years ago on November 12th of 2018. Owner Josh Serrano tells me about the new classes the gym will be offering, as well as the extra preventive measures SayulitaFit will now be taking to ensure health and safety amongst their members.

What new preventive health or safety measures will you be taking at SayulitaFit since closing and then reopening after Covid?

For starters, we ask that if anyone feels sick or has a temperature above 38 degrees Celsius, that they stay at home. Second, we will be checking the temperature of our guests at the door upon arrival, and if anyone is carrying a fever they will be asked to return home and come back at a later time. We have also installed a disinfection station that is always stocked with Lysol wipes, disinfectant aerosols and sprays, anti-bacterial gel, and plenty of paper towels. We will require that all clients must wipe down their equipment before and after use, as well as that they bring their own personal towel. Our cleaning staff is on hand all day, cleaning and disinfecting all high contact areas, as well as all equipment and facilities. Finally, we are monitoring any potential crowding issues, and will require all clients to pick a reserved workout time if need be in order to maintain a smaller capacity of people in a shared space.

What new classes or programs will you be offering soon?

We are revamping our class offerings, and over the next couple of weeks we will announce a new HIIT class, a training program that we’ve created specifically for kids, and the much anticipated return of our cycling class.  I'll fill you all in on a little secret; I am currently working on a new class that has been on many people's wish list, and I truly believe it will be the hottest program that is going to take the town by storm! It is a 5 to 6 month project that is still in the works, so expect more details on this starting in early 2021. It will knock your socks off! (*Hint*).

Being the only full fitness center/gym in Sayulita, what do you hope SayulitaFit brings to our community?

As always, our goal is to provide a world class training facility for the community and our visitors. We are the area's training center for most of the competitive athletes at both the pro and amateur level. Regardless of your skill and fitness level, we have something for everyone.

How can the gym greatly increase or boost one's immune system?

If there is one lesson we can take away from COVID-19, it is that we must be prepared for any potential threats to our health. This is not the last pandemic we will see in the near future. Thus, is important to maintain our health. A strong immune system begins with two basic staples: proper nutrition, and strong bodies. As a COVID-19 survivor myself, I fully credit my physical shape and fitness level for helping me fight it off early and quickly.

Strong lungs begin with regular cardio. You must be doing a minimum of two to three weekly cardio sessions for optimal lung strength. This can be something as simple as taking a walk, or taking a light jog. Strength training further increases your immune system as it directly increases the number and circulation of immune and disease fighting cells in your body. There is simply no substitute for fighting off infectious diseases than a strong and conditioned body.

Are there any other general updates you’d like readers to know about since SayulitaFit closed?

Our work hours during the week days remain the same; we are open from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. At the moment, our weekend hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Furthermore, we want everyone in Sayulita to know that we are back, and even better than ever! We hope to see everyone in the gym soon!
