Kelly Guenther is an award-winning photographer with over 20 years of professional experience. She opened her first studio in NYC in 2001, and since then has shot over 300 weddings.

Kelly began her career as a freelance news photographer for The New York Times during 9/11. From here she decided to make a change. ¨Honestly, I needed to photograph happier things for my mental health, so I started the wedding photojournalism business!¨ At this time it was the year 2002, and the idea of just documenting the day and not directing it was a new concept. Wedding photography as a genre was far from progressive.

Kelly was one of a handful of photographers who pioneered the wedding photojournalism style. She mastered a hands-off approach, capturing the real energy and emotions of the day. ¨And I loved it! Weddings are fun! Everyone is excited, happy to be there...so much joy in one room... it's infectious.¨

Kelly is a photojournalist by training, meaning she captures real moments. She does not pose pictures or tell clients what to do. ¨The more my clients ignore me, the better the photos become. I love to document emotions.¨ Kelly captures unique photos representing the energy of the instant because of her ability to anticipate a moment. She often watches a scene through the viewfinder and just waits. Having the patience to allow the moment to happen instead of directing it is what sets her apart from other photographers. You cannot forget her journalist instincts either. She always manages to be in the right place at the right time.

Kelly Guenther Studio consists of a great team of second shooters and also has references for professional videographers and other vendors such as trusted bands, DJ's, hairstylists, and makeup artists.

Though weddings and events are Kelly Guenther Studio´s most requested services, Kelly also shoots many family and maternity portraits as well. Additionally, she photographs some product/food shoots and corporate shoots as well. The team uses the latest Sony cameras. They are very small and silent, and the image quality is the best on the market.

Kelly reveals the huge lifestyle change she made moving to Sayulita from NYC. ¨I wanted to slow down, to enjoy nature and my friends, to create, to live instead of just survive. I love the slower pace, the freedom, the ease in all things, but especially the easy access to nature.¨ Sayulita is her paradise and photography is her passion.

The relationship between the photographer and the couple on their wedding day is very intimate. With a calm and positive yet unobtrusive presence, Kelly makes clients feel at ease. She also has the experience to work through all aspects that are part of that big day. ¨I have shot over 350 weddings and can help couples navigate the planning process and guide them through the nuance of the day.  I'm more than a photographer. I'm part bridesmaid and planner as well.¨

Planning any wedding is stressful, but planning a destination wedding can be especially so. It's even more important that you hire experienced local vendors that you can trust. Kelly brings the polished, New York City style photographer here to Sayulita!!  She truly loves her work and it is evident in her photos.
