This month’s donation recipient from Sayulita Life goes to Pro Sayulita as they continue to work closely with lawyers and environmental specialists to stop the new IMPLAN Development Plan for Sayulita. We are all aware of the difficult times we are facing due to Covid-19, but in order to continue forward with this project, the community of Sayulita needs additional funds; Pro Sayulita’s goal is to raise $25,000 USD. Sayulita Life’s donation will go toward raising funds to help our community stop this development plan, also known as the “Saving Sayulita Project”. The economy will surely be affected negatively by this plan if it is not stopped, opening the doors of IMPLAN for "special favors" to be asked, like the approval of illegal constructions, and taking advantage of height limits on new builds.

Sayulita Life’s recipient of our monthly donation for June was split between two groups: the Gavilanes Vigilantes and Luis Verdin’s Group, “La Huerta”. The Gavilanes Vigilantes have been volunteering to protect our pueblo during the outbreak of Covid-19 by guarding filters and security checkpoints to ensure our town remained safe & secure. Sayulita Life’s donation to this group, for the second month in a row, went toward purchasing food & supplies to help sustain the volunteers working long, tiring shifts, 24 hours a day. Luis Verdin is a Sayulita local who created the group “La Huerta”. His primary goal is to buy fresh fruit and vegetables at lower costs directly from the producers, in order to then create food baskets at reduced prices for those in economic need here in Sayulita. Sayulita Life’s donation went toward purchasing 25 bags of fruits and vegetables which helped 25 local families in need.

Are you finding yourself bored during quarantine? Get the family together and spend some time trying out a new and fun recipe!. Everyone loves a good batch French fries; this recipe, however, for “Avocado Fries” is a healthier take on the classic and beloved snack, that everyone in the family will surely love! The best part is that it’s always Avocado season in Sayulita! I had not even heard of avocado fries until a couple of weeks ago; my husband and I happened upon them on the menu at one of the beach restaurants here in Sayulita! Being a foodie and because I love avocados, I just had to try them.

After an official release from the governor of the state of Nayarit on March 30th, 2020, asking tourists to not travel during what normally is Sayulita's busiest time of year, "Semana Santa", or Spring/Easter break, Sayulita's local volunteer group, the Gavilanes Vigilantes, took safety measures into their own hands, and have been helping to patrol the entrance and exit to and from town in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Sayulita Life made an additional $5,000 donation to the Vigilantes’ group in order to support their efforts in protecting our pueblo. This donation went toward purchasing food & refreshments directly for the 50+ volunteers working long and tiresome shifts, and toward the purchase of safety supplies needed for the group’s members.

Sayulita Life’s recipient of our monthly donation for May is the “Sayulita Cares” / “Sayulita Cuida” Group. Sayulita Cares is a group originally created by a local Sayulita resident, that has now joined together with a variety of volunteers, as well as the Gavilanes Vigilantes, to help members of our Sayulita and San Ignacio community remain healthy and safe during this challenging economic time, due to loss of jobs from closures related to Covid-19. Sayulita Life’s $6,000 donation went toward the group’s efforts in getting items and supplies for their food bank delivery program, which has been assisting those in need in our community.

This month’s recipient of Sayulita Life’s $5,000 donation goes towards El Centro Creativo and their community theatre event. This year, El Centro wanted to put together a free theatre performance for the community of Sayulita as part of the culmination of the children’s theatre camp they run each year. In order to do so, they tracked down several top actors and actresses from Mexico City, and asked them to bring their skills and talents to the stage here in Sayulita for our enjoyment. Sayulita Life’s donation will go toward purchasing the flights for these actors in order to ensure their ability to come to our little pueblo, help teach and guide our youth, and put on a stellar performance for the whole town to enjoy!

Tortillas. We eat them all the time in Sayulita, and tacos are a staple. As you may be aware, I try very hard to stay away from carbohydrates, so I am always looking for a good low-carb tortilla shell recipe, and today I found it in my own kitchen! The best part is that all of the ingredients can be found here in Sayulita or close by in Bucerias. So if you still want to enjoy tacos but with a guilt-free, low-carb tortilla, then give this recipe a try!
