Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Georgia Glennon, and I moved to Sayulita 16 years ago from New York City. I live here with my boyfriend and two dogs. I’m a family photographer and the owner of Sayulita Childcare. Since I absolutely love kids, the two businesses complement each other perfectly. I also have a passion for travel, though I used to travel much more for my photography work. Lately, I find myself spending more time in the paradise I now call home. When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes or enjoying a meal at one of my favorite local restaurants. I’m also a huge tennis fan and have been lucky enough to witness some incredible matches all over the world. But whether I’m watching live or on TV, I’m always up for the thrill of the game—even if it means waking up at odd hours to catch the action!

How did you first discover Sayulita?

I first came to Sayulita in January 1996 as an extension of a trip to Puerto Vallarta. It was love at first sight, and I knew right away that I would live here someday. The place was so magical, and I remember it vividly. There were only a handful of restaurants back then, and no ATMs until about 2008. It was a different time, and visitors had to make sure they brought enough cash to last their entire stay.

What made you decide to start a life here?

In 2009, my family was vacationing in Sayulita over the New Year holiday. My brother and I were walking along the beach when I turned to him and said, “I’m moving here. I’m going to start a babysitting service and photograph families and weddings.” I went back to New York, packed up my apartment, and just two months later, I was living in Sayulita. I haven’t looked back since. Although I work much more than I did in New York, it never feels like work. I’m my own boss, and I get to make a living doing what I love.

What about Sayulita made you want to start your business here?

When I moved to Sayulita in 2009, it was a much smaller, tight-knit community. Everyone knew each other, and there was a sense of happiness and contentment with the simple things in life. I remember watching kids in the plaza, pulling each other around in a box, having the time of their lives. That was the moment I knew I had found the right place. The strong sense of community drew me in, and even as Sayulita has grown, that spirit of togetherness still remains.

Tell us a little bit about your business:

Sayulita Childcare is a full-service babysitting service covering Sayulita, Punta Mita, and San Pancho. She hired me to care for her toddler and 4-year-old, and a couple of years later, when I was in San Francisco for the summer, she invited me to stay at her home for the entire duration. I initially declined, but she insisted, and I ended up staying there. I’ll never forget how trusting that gesture felt. She said, “Georgia, you took care of my kids.” Today, her daughter is in college, and her son is in high school. I had the honor of photographing her wedding in 2023, and it was heartwarming when her son asked me for advice on ordering a drink. I laughed, remembering when I changed his diapers!

Anything else you’d like to add?

Moving to Mexico 16 years ago was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I have no regrets. I was the first childcare service in Sayulita, and I’ve loved growing my business from just myself to a team of six highly qualified providers. Whether I’m photographing children or caring for them with my team, I’m lucky to be in a field that I’m passionate about. Sayulita’s beauty and its rich traditions have truly captured my heart, and I feel grateful every day to live here. I plan to stay here for the long haul, if not for the rest of my life!

Check out Sayulita Childcare here!

Hi!
