Let’s Start with You…

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to Sayulita? I’m British and left England in 1998 to sail around the world. I lived as a nomad on a boat for seven years, two of those in the Sea of Cortez, where I fell in love with Mexico. After settling in Vancouver, I returned to Mexican coastal towns often for vacations. I founded a book publishing company in 2010 and hosted writing retreats in Puerto Vallarta. In 2018, I moved to Mexico full-time and operated my business remotely. I purchased a retreat center in Vallarta in 2022, but construction noise made it unsuitable for clients, so I began searching for a quieter place. That search led me to Sayulita.

What inspired you to start this business here? Sayulita feels like the Old Town Vallarta I fell in love with—authentic, peaceful, and community-centered. I was also drawn to Sayulita Life as a hub for like-minded people. After years of digital fatigue, I craved real, in-person, high-touch connection that Sayulita makes possible.

What’s something most people don’t know about your story? In 2014, I discovered I was dyslexic while working with the founder of Dyslexia Canada. It turned out dyslexia was a hidden family truth—my father was illiterate when he married. I began researching and realized dyslexia is more a teaching issue than a learning problem. I proudly declared myself a “Dyslexic Book Publisher” in a TEDx talk, which received over 150,000 views before being removed for critiquing the education system. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of writers who thought they “weren’t good enough” to publish books.

2. About the Business

What makes your business unique in Sayulita? I’m the only book publisher and book coach in Nayarit and Jalisco. I specialize in high-touch, personalized manuscript coaching and consulting. My InspireABook system helps authors get clear on their book’s purpose, audience, and marketing strategy. I often work with first-time authors and businesses looking to create their “200-page business card.” Services include support for TEDx talks, podcasts, and membership group strategies.

How would you describe the vibe or spirit of your service? Uplifting, encouraging, and deeply committed. Writing a book is a big journey, and I’m here to support every step.

Is there a product or experience close to your heart? I love working on collaborative/anthology books that raise funds for good causes. One project raised $45,000 USD for a foundation by collecting stories from 15 women, each contributing a chapter and promoting the book. The authors donated all royalties back to the cause.

3. Community Connection

What does being part of Sayulita mean to you? It feels like home. Sayulita has a genuine community heart, and Sayulita Life is a fantastic tool for connecting people.

Do you collaborate with local artisans or causes? Yes! I’m a sponsor of Rise Children’s Orphanage and have supported them through fundraisers and collaborative books. I featured their story on Radiante FM and in Puerto Vallarta Tribune Travel magazine.

How does your business give back to the community? I’d love to launch a book series featuring Sayulita businesses, combining visibility with philanthropy. Featured businesses would be interviewed on my podcast and promoted through my media channels. Profits and royalties would go to a local cause—I’m actively seeking one now.

4.
