"...A little slice of heaven on earth. A reminder that life can be simpler, slower, and more purposeful. Thank you for everything...a priceless gift." ...A Villa Olivia Guest

Villa Olivia at Patzcuaro Beach, located 2.5 miles south of Sayulita, is a secluded tropical paradise for families and friends looking for a true "escape from it all", while within close proximity to Sayulita and Punta de Mita, a short 8-10 minute drive in either direction. The villa was formerly featured in Outside Magazine as one of the international "100 Absolute Best Getaways" and affords a breathtaking oceanfront setting surrounded by pristine beaches and exotic jungle.

Sayulita's Patzcuaro Beach is a relatively unknown and still undeveloped area with a small handful of private vacation compounds owned primarily by prominent Mexican families who have been here for many years. Our area of the coastline has been designated by the Mexican Federal Government as an ecological preserve for the protection of nesting sea turtles, birds, and other wildlife. "Monkey Mountain", the legendary home of the God of the Huitchol Indians can be seen from Villa Olivia. A section of the road to the villa passes through a stream with giant ancient fig trees, typically filled with colorful tropical birds. The property itself is lush with mature trees and palms, flowering plants, and tropical vegetation.

Villa Olivia in Sayulita is offered for rent as 4 bedroom property. The Villa Olivia experience is most ideally suited to those who are looking to spend quality time together as they would in their own private vacation home.  It is also for those who place a high priority on being in touch with nature; enjoying the sounds of the waves and the birds, taking morning hikes through the jungle, watching the whales and dolphins from the breakfast table, languishing on a private stretch of beach or in a hammock under the palms, taking in the magnificent sunsets, and gazing at the stars around a bonfire on the beach. We have had many groups of all ages stay with us over the past 18 years. A stay at Villa Olivia is a unique and "magical" experience you are likely to never forget!

The villa, staggered on a hillside directly above the beach, is remarkably lovely in the traditional Mexican style. It was built in the early 1980's by a prominent Mexican family from Guadalajara as a vacation home and was designed with the traditional red tile roofs, whitewashed walls, high beamed ceilings, terracota floors and classical "talavera" tiles, cobblestone walkways and terraces. The spacious living/dining area is under a 30 foot high thatched roof "palapa" overlooking the ocean with an adjoining fully equipped family-style kitchen. A winding stone stairway leads to the pool and beach below. Each of the individual bedroom "casitas" has its own private entrance, spacious bedroom, bath, and patio or terrace with ocean views. The atmosphere at Villa Olivia can best be described as secluded, relaxed, intimate, and exceptionally charming.

Airport pick-up and delivery as well as local taxi van service to and from the villa are available. Guests who plan to leave the property frequently may wish to rent a vehicle.

Fantastic off season rates! An amazing vacation experience for families and friends
During the rainy season, it typically rains in the late afternoons and evenings but is sunny during the day. It is seasonally hot and humid, but the property is staggered on a hillside and we typically have a nice ocean breeze. The four bedroom "casitas" each have lovely mosquito netting canopies and overhead fans which make for comfortable sleeping with a light cover. The ocean temperatures are perfect and our beach is wide and sandy and nice for swimming and boogie boarding. The sunsets, magnificent!

I just returned home and can't wait to come back. Villa Olivia was exactly what I needed. The private beach is beautiful and serene. It was like staying on our own private island. The owners are perfect hosts and you just want to sit down and chat with them to hear their stories. The palapa has plenty of space and great views from everywhere. The pool is a perfect alternative if you want to avoid the waves. Our days went like this: beach, then pool, back to beach, then pool again, then the fridge, back to beach, then pool to beach to pool. Loved every minute of it.

Getting into town is a hike, but an easy (and cheap) cab ride solves that.

Spectacular setting and wonderful hosts!
Villa Olivia gave us a wonderful family holiday in a setting that is almost unimaginably stunning. We were ages 7 to 65 and loved walking the secluded beach, paddling around the pool and listening to roaring surf 24x7. Patrick and Lynn were kindly, thoughtful and unobtrusive guides. Josephina took good care of us as needed. It is the tropics. We met up with a couple of impressive bugs and the geckos shared our quarters. The drive into the house is very rough and the steps up and down to the beach will give you a workout. A wonderful getaway for couples or a family in a place of great beauty!

Great Vacation Spot
Had an absolutely fabulous time at Villa Olivia. Extremely private setting with a great view from every room. Went as a group of 6 (3 couples) - everyone had their own private space and the gathering room was perfect to get together as a group for dinner or cocktails. The pool is unheated but it warmed nicely in the afternoon sun. Everyone was very friendly and helpful with any needs we had. I would highly recommend Villa Olivia to anyone looking for a private setting w/ plenty of space to spread out and beautiful views of the sunset.

Best place to stay in Sayulita
We had an amazing time at Villa Olivia in Sayulita. Villa Olivia was perfect for our group of three families as it offered the perfect mix of private and common space. Each family had its own casita, all with ocean views. We could all gather in the large palapa and prepare meals in the gourmet kitchen. The beach is practically a private beach - we rarely saw anyone else there. Our days were spent swimming at the pool, swimming at the beach, and reading in the hammock on the palapa. For more stimulation, we could walk 30 minutes into Sayulita. I miss the wonderful views, perfect weather, warm ocean swims, and the beautiful setting at Villa Olivia.

Amazing family vacation in paradise
Our family of four vacationed with two other families with kids, the kids ranging from 4-7 and the setup at villa Olivia in Sayulita was just perfect. The kids spent the majority of our time there in the pool or at the beach in front of the property. The palapa gave us a great common area for meals, hanging out, easing into the day with a cup of coffee or taking in the amazing sunsets with a cold Pacifico. The room setup gave us great flexibility for sleeping arrangements.

Lynn and Patrick were gracious hosts that helped us when needed all week including a couple of homemade breakfasts.

Our kids still talk about the pool, the beach and the "palapa" at villa olivia and of course we still dream of being there when we should be working.

We wouldn't hesitate to go back!!

Paradise Found!
Another day in paradise in Sayulita on the Pacific Coast north of Puerto Vallarta.

I am sitting on the terrace overlooking the pool and the ocean. My first cup of coffee is standing by and I am listening to the waves breaking on the deserted beach down below Villa Olivia. The sun is just coming over the mountain. Across the bay I can see Punta Mita.

At the end of an exotic drive through tropical forest, along side small plots of farmland, a very small village and through a stream (yes you do drive in the water and yes it is passable) stands Villa Olivia perched snugly above the ocean.

When I arrived owners Patrick and Lynn were waiting for me with a hospitable welcome. Veterans of many years in the hospitality business, they know how to make a guest welcome!

After a welcome shot of tequila and dinner (optional and on request) I tucked into one of the spacious accommodations and fell asleep listening to the waves breaking down below. In testimony to how relaxing the place is, I slept the next morning until 11:30 am. A first for me!

There is a beautifully maintained pool and steps down to the beach which is rarely populated by anything other than . . .? Than what? In the three days I've walked the beach I've have seen only one couple. The water in the ocean is perfect -- not too cold, not too warm. I found it hard to abandon the water and beach!

I am travelling solo so a genuine welcome rates extremely high on my report card. The Villa is available by the week for families or groups (sleeps up to ten couples) or by the day. I have already written my siblings suggesting we book it for a family reunion. It would be completely ours for the duration.

Another plus is nearby Sayulita reached by a two mile road through the coastal tropical forest. Sayulita is pretty special for someone wanting to get a little bit off the beaten path -- still 'muy rustico' (very rustic) -- mostly. Compared to Puerto Vallarta (30 miles south of here) this is the 'real' Mexico and has some good restaurants and attractive bars in addition to the usual. I had dinner last night at Don Pedro's directly on the beach -- in shirtsleeves in January! Excellent fish.

I've already extended my reservation and will be back!

One -- and only one -- caution: there are steps -- from the entry to the rooms to the main terrace and then down to the pool and beach.

You will always cherish your time at Villa Olivia
I have traveled all over Mexico and many countries in the world and Villa Olivia in Sayulita stands out among them. A group of 6 adults stayed at the Villa under the laid-back yet attentive care of Lynn and Patrick. They prepared breakfast for us every morning in the palapa. They answered every dumb question with a smile. They prepared dinners to die for if we requested it. Their villa is spectacularly beautiful. Each palapa is uniquely lovely. The pool area overlooks the most beautiful 'private' beach (the only people we saw in 7 days were surfers). We had to drag ourselves away to explore Sayulita. Truly, this is heaven.

Very special place to stay
My extended family and I stayed at Villa Olivia in Sayulita for one week in March. This group included a 4 month old infant, two toddlers, and two women in their 70's. We had a fantastic time relaxing, enjoying the incredible views and the wonderful sound of the ocean. I loved that we all had privacy in our casitas but could come together and socialize in the beautiful palapa. Villa Olivia feels so private and off the beaten track but is really quite a close drive to Sayulita.

Sayulita is a cute town but we were always happy to get home to our oasis and unwind. I highly recommend hiring a personal chef such as Sofia . She is an excellent cook and such a warm person. It was so nice to eat at the villa olivia and not venture out with the kids.

Simply Paradise!
The most beautiful place I ever stayed in Mexico! I will return to Sayulita every year! The service was impeccable, and Lynn and Patrick were gracious hosts! Our bungalows were very clean with wonderful beds and decorated with authentic mexican furniture. The pictures do not do it justice! Great place to have family reunion, all girls get away, or couples retreat. We chose to prepare most of our own meals in the open- air kitchen over looking the ocean! The Palapa was our favorite hang - out place and of course the pool! We chose not to leave our paradise very much!!
