Karen is one of a kind!
I can't say enough good things about Karen. She did an incredible job starting with the planning and all the questions I had up until the afternoon of the wedding. She is extremely organized and knowledgeable. She was so patient with all the changes and questions and was always extremely gracious with anything I asked her. My wedding was perfect and I owe a lot of that to her. I would recommend anyone getting married in Sayulita to use Karen as their coordinator. You will not be disappointed! Karen, thank you for everything you did for us. We are so grateful!

With heartfelt thanks
Thank you again for all your help. Our Sayulita wedding was simply wonderful. The best time of my life to-date. And I think you had a lot to do with that, so if you ever need anything, a recommendation, etc. please don't hesitate to ask. And if you're ever near Chicago, please let us know. We'd love to see you again. I don't know when we'll make it back to Sayulita, I hope soon, but you never really know where life is going to take you, right?

Surpassed our expectations !!
We had our wedding at Villa Amor this past November 2014. Karen helped us organized what we and all of our guest considered a one in a lifetime event! Both my husband and I agreed that we wanted something simple, inexpensive, yet memorable and intimate. We could not have chosen a better place and coordinator! Being away from our wedding destination did make me a bit nervous about how things were going to be, however Karen showed great professionalism throughout the planning face and she was unbelievable with all the details from a-z.
We cannot thank her enough, she helped us achieve the wedding of our dreams!!! Exactly what we wanted except with perfection!

Karen was the best wedding coordinator we could have ever asked for, and our wedding truly was perfect. We felt so comfortable with Karen from the moment we met her about a year before our wedding. We felt like we were in good hands from the beginning, and she really did take care of every last detail. I enjoyed communicating with Karen over the course of the year while we were planning things, and she was so organized about everything, it made it so much easier to keep track of all the details. I also really valued Karen's opinions and practical, great advice when I couldn't make up my mind about things or just needed guidance. When we arrived in town, Karen made sure we got last-minute details out of the way early so that my fiance and I could go enjoy ourselves and hang out with our guests. She really had our best interests at heart the whole time, and I knew she wanted us to have the best wedding and really cared. My husband and I, plus all our guests, were just in awe of how wonderful everything turned out. We all had the time of our lives and couldn't believe how beautiful everything was. If you're at all interested in getting married in Sayulita, go with Karen and expect to have a really amazing wedding. She's super professional and organized and great at her job, but she's also a very warm and friendly person. She's really the best!!

Attention to detail and very helpful!
We chose Sayulita and Villa Amor as our wedding destination without ever visiting the area, we trusted the recommendation of a friend and ran with it. It was the best decision we could have made and lead to the perfect wedding for us and the group of 60 that joined us. I did of course have anxiety at times about the unknown of planning a wedding from abroad, solely by email, but my worries were put to ease once we arrived and met Karen face to face. Karen had kept track of all the details that mattered to me, no matter how small and answered my long list of questions along the way. She interpreted my vision for the wedding so well and handled everything day-of with grace and professionalism. Karen was a true treat to work with and Sayulita made for a magical setting. If I could do it all again, I'd do it all the same.

Absolutely amazing wedding planner!
Karen gave us the wedding of our dreams. We were nervous about planning things from the US, and actually only went to Sayulita one time, almost a year before the wedding. But Karen made everything smooth and easy. The entire weekend went exactly how we wanted it to. She anticipated issues and solved them without us even having to think about it. She made us feel as if she was 100% there for us and on our side no matter what. She is professional and very well connected to vendors in the area, so you get great service and great deals. You will get fast responses to emails and good communication all around. She helped us plan events leading up to the wedding as well. If you are getting married in Sayulita, you absolutely must hire Karen!

Karen is the BEST!! Hire her as your Wedding Planner; I promise you won't be disappointed!
Karen Ruezga was an absolute dream to work with on our wedding!

At first we were a little nervous planning from afar, but it was the best decision we ever made and that has everything to do with Karen! She was quick to respond to our initial inquiry and continued to be prompt in responding throughout the entire wedding planning process. From the moment Karen was in touch with us, she calmed any apprehension we had and put our minds at ease. She answered every crazy, incredibly-detailed question (and believe me, there were a lot of them! :)) we had with confidence and certainty. Being an event planner myself, I have very high expectations, but Karen was a breath of fresh air because her expectations were just as high if not higher than mine.

Throughout our year-long planning process, Karen served as my eyes and ears and she completely understood my vision. Many of the vendors such as our photographers, florists and DJ we brought in from the states and each and every one mentioned how easy and delightful Karen was to work with. About six months prior to the wedding, I came to visit Villa Amor, check out the town, meet Karen in person and have a tasting for the food we were planning to serve at the wedding. Karen had everything perfectly planned for us from start to finish. Even with it pouring down rain, Villa Amor was gorgeous that day! Karen planned a wonderful tasting with the head chef and made sure he explained each dish to us and how it was prepared. She even went to the trouble to have a tablescape set up right outside of the Gran Villa terrace where we planned to have our reception. I knew from that point on that we had made a great decision in Villa Amor and in Karen as our planner and couldn’t wait for our March wedding and for all of our friends to see this gorgeous place!

All throughout the planning process, I had odd questions and requests and Karen always went above and beyond to fulfill my wishes for the wedding! When we had the crazy idea of having a burro in the photobooth; Karen knew a man who had a burro in town! When we ran into a bit of a mix up with our guests staying at the hotel; she was the first to step in and handle the problem immediately! When we decided to forgo a traditional wedding cake and have churros instead; she knew the best churro maker in town (and by the way our friends are still talking about those delicious churros!). And when we ran into a hiccup with getting sparklers in PV; Karen somehow found a way to scrounge some up for us for our exit! I am not sure what we would have done without Karen. She kept her cool through everything and always did so with a smile!

It was such a magical night filled with family, friends and fun! We were on such a high when we came back from the wedding that it was really hard to come back to reality. Jared and I are still reeling from the wedding – it was the absolute perfect day of our lives!! And much of that we can attribute to Karen – she kept me calm when I began to feel frantic and nervous. When we began our initial conversations with Karen, she asked what was most important to us for our wedding. Our response was that we just wanted all of our guests to thoroughly enjoy themselves and fall in love with this quaint, little town. I can happily say that was successfully achieved with flying colors!! We cannot tell you how many people complimented us, emailed us and are still sending us praises on how beautifully executed everything was and we owe all of that to Karen. She and her staff worked tirelessly to make sure every detail was carried out perfectly! In the end, our wedding exceeded our wildest expectations!! Should you be so lucky for Karen to plan your big day, you definitely will not be disappointed!

Here's a little taste of her amazing coordination and all of the fun that was had on our big day: http://vimeo.com/89286011 (Video by Glass Jar Photography)

Best Wedding Ever! Karen @ Villa Amor
We got married in March 2014. I know I'm biased, but so many of our friends came to us after the wedding weekend and said that it was "hands-down the best wedding they'd ever been to" that I know that it was a uniquely magical experience for our guests as well as my wife and myself.
Sayulita is a gem of a town - gorgeous, small enough to get around by foot but big enough to be entertaining for more than a week's stay. Everyone was so happy to be there that the wedding was the cherry on top!
At first, we were bummed to realize that we couldn't get married on the beach at Playa de Los Muertos because there is no electricity and thus no way to hook up sound (and the waves made it too hard for people to have heard the ceremony), but Karen, our wedding planner, created the perfect scenario for us in the sandy area (so we still had our feet in the sand) right next to and overlooking the beach and bay at Villa Amor.
The only thing I'd suggest is making sure that you get good microphones. People had to hold them in a very specific way with their mouths directly perpendicular to the microphones, otherwise the sound went out.
The ceremony was beautiful nonetheless and we were even visited by one of the many local stray dogs after we exchanged our vows (he just walked right down the aisle!) which we're taking as good luck :)
The reception at the Gran Villa Patio at Villa Amor was stunning. The Cuban band was fun, and the DJ did a great job - no one left the dance floor til we kicked them out at 11:30 and moved the party to the beach :)
Karen made sure that everything ran smoothly. We felt that we were in good hands, which was calming on such an important day.
One example of how Karen took care of things - we'd ordered peach flower arrangements, and when the florist dropped them off, they were bright pink. I quietly freaked out, but Karen was already on top of it. They had ordered the flowers from out of town and were sent the wrong color (even though they ordered the correct color). They had quickly made use of the flowers they'd been sent, but before I even said anything to Karen, she had them take them back and redo them with different flowers. They weren't EXACTLY what I'd planned, but they turned out beautifully, and Karen managed the "crisis" with grace and efficiency. The truth is - even the pink flowers were beautiful, and the location is so stunning that you barely need decoration at all.
We also had our Friday night "rehearsal dinner" in the Paraiso Villa and brought in tacos and tequila from town and Karen organized the server and bartender, ice, cups, etc. and we had a man making hand-rolled cigars for our guests - which was a touch that was well worth it!
People couldn't get over the view or the villa. Everyone mingled, made toasts, etc. and it was a beautiful evening.
I can't say enough good things about Karen, Sayulita, or Villa Amor.
If you're on the fence - hop over it and say yes!
