Vegetarians and vegans will be happy to know that there are many Sayulita cafés and restaurants that cater to their lifestyle. We’ve dedicated March, “Meatless March”, and have searched for the best meatless burger in town. Monchis has a handmade, creative, vegetarian-friendly burger even meat lovers will crave.

Monchis is a laid back, no-fuss restaurant that has been owned and operated by Othon and Gabriel Velasco since 2014. Monchis is located in the center of town in Sayulita, with a fun and casual environment great for a group of friends, families, or for a solo lunch break. Monchis is very much a family business, as their mother comes in from time to time to help out in the restaurant. The kitchen staff and servers are treated like family, and Gabriel Velasco mentions that he is thrilled to have people on his team excited to cook and learn. More than likely, you’ll notice Gabriel serving, taking orders, and heading back to the kitchen to ensure each dish is being made of the highest integrity and quality. Monchis in Sayulita has a menu of fantastic selections of delicious, local seafood, easy eats, high quality salads, and has fantastic options for vegetarians and vegans.

The Monchis Veggie Burger is made of celery, red peppers, jalapeño, garlic, olives, black beans, garbanzo beans, eggs (as a solidifier), oats, handmade panko bread crumbs, and a variety of smoky herbs. Gabriel believes that many restaurants now a-days over use harmful canola and vegetable oils. In the kitchen, Gabriel makes sure that just a small amount of olive oil is used in most dishes. For those who watch their gluten intake, Monchis will plate your veggie burger on a bed of delicious lettuce or a salad of your choice. Local tip- order a side salad of their spinach salad. The spinach salad comes with dried cranberries, blue cheese, candied nuts, light balsamic vinaigrette, and is the perfect combination for their veggie burger. Sayulita is an extremely health-conscious village with large efforts to create a sustainable and eco-friendly environment for all. Gabriel believes the best way to do this is to support the local farmers and fishermen in our community. A large amount of Monchis produce and ingredients come from local vendors, fruiterias, and fishermen. The restaurant has a large variety of smoothies made with local fruit and honey (no added sugars, sweeteners, or simple syrup), and supports Sayulita’s continual effort to “go green”.

As Sayulita continues to grow and flourish, many restaurants notice the changes and preferences of people’s tastes and dietary needs and cater to the demand of healthy, natural, local food. Whether you wish to enjoy a vegetarian-friendly burger, a classic dish of aguachile, a creative and filling salad, or sample the local and exotic fish dishes available, Monchis has everything you could want or need.
