Description

Casa Ballena in Sayulita is a small, aesthetically-designed vacation home, built for me by Sayulita's favorite architect, Estela Gayosso. With one bedroom with King size bed, and one bath including outdoor shower, this romantic home is perfect for a couple. The parota-wood doors open from the living room out onto the cantera stone-tiled terrace with a beautiful palapa providing shade, breezes, a work place, as well as entertaining and outdoor living space.  It is only a 6-minute walk to downtown and the beach from the beautiful Gringo Hill location.

Named for its whale fountain, Casa Ballena treats one to a lovely "botanical" garden with a "cantera rustico" walkway,  a fully-equipped kitchen with a pass-through window for entertaining, and a little back yard with clothesline for drying your beach clothes. The new palapa (October, 2016 ) is lovely and is the real livingroom of the Casa, where you can enjoy the outdoor tropical living lifestyle.  New rock-enclosed gardens are along the walkway.  Excellent lighting provides safety at night.

Please take a look at Casita Molusco also available on the property - it can be rented separately or together with Casa Ballena if you are in need of more space.

Incredible Location!
Having stayed at a different property for several previous visits to Sayulita, we were a bit skeptical about trying a new place. Sayulita can be a very lively town, and where you stay has everything to do with how much sleep and rest you may get during your trip. As we circled the teardrop of the town center and headed up Gringo Hill towards Casa Ballena, the environment transformed from busy and lively to a quiet and quaint neighborhood. We were dropped off at Casa Ballena, and were very surprised and happy to see an adorable property with beautiful gardens and very tastefully built Casa and Casita. We were staying at Casa Ballena for 10 days so we were eager to settle in. The Palapa became our main hang out, even though the Casa is very well laid out and extremely comfortable. We thought we would miss the view of the ocean, but quite the opposite was true. Hanging out under the Palapa, gives you the perfect front row seat to feel like you are sitting in a tropical treehouse. You are surrounded by beautiful trees and different levels of gardens, it’s very peaceful and tranquil. Birds and other wildlife frequent the casa grounds adding to its charm. You may also have sweet little visitors from across the street as the local hens travel over to forage in the gardens. The location of Casa Ballena couldn’t be better, it’s a very short walk to the town center, yet when you’re at the property you wouldn’t know that it is so close because it is very quiet and tranquil. We enjoyed our time there so much we stayed a couple more days. Casa Ballena has become our favorite place to stay in all of Sayulita, and provides just the right amount of amenities. Now we don’t want to stay anywhere else!

Love everything about this casa
We have had the most wonderful time here. Your casa is the best place we've ever stayed. We love everything about it! The location is so close to town yet it's so private. The terrace is spectacular. The outdoor shower is the best! ... We've spent our time shopping, exploring the town, hiking to secluded beaches, going to San Pancho and lying around relaxing, also shuttled over to Playa La Lancha so my husband could go surfing. It was beautiful there and we're going back again.

Our favorite!
We've been to Sayulita a number of times and stayed more than six different places, this is our favorite. Quoting from a previous review "The photographs of Casa Ballena do not do it justice. It is a beautiful home with a unique and inviting open floor plan. The patio palapa is a wonderful place to enjoy". Elegant architectural details including beautifully crafted wood/glass doors opening the living area to the palapa and jungle greenery. Surprising wildlife, birds, coati, iguanas, etc. Short hilly walk into town. The casa is private and relaxing. Ready to move right in.

Perfect Location
We just spent (3) nights at Casa Ballena...it was very last minute. Thankfully, Jean was able to accommodate us.

The house was very clean with everything you need. Loved the outdoor shower! Jean was very helpful and easy to deal with. We do travel to Sayulita often and will definitely stay here again.

Thanks so much, Kathy

Great new casita in awesome location
Jean's new casita is fantastic! Excellent location, a very quick walk up the hill from town which is perfect as it's nice and quiet but only takes about 5-6 min to walk into town. This place would be great for a couple, it has a lovely patio that is really quite private with a nice view. Jean was very easy to get in touch with and provided some good local recommendations. I would love to stay here again.

I live in Colorado and love hiking, cooking for us, paleontology lab work, painting, music, gardening and most of all being outdoors. Attended Univ. of Nebr., graduated at Univ. of Denver, and now I'm enjoying all of those activities. While studying Spanish, I really dreamed of having a little house with a red tile roof in Mexico. It came to pass when I visited friends in Sayulita, met an architect, she and I conferred, and the rest is history from some 26 years ago! There are constant changes in the pueblo and area, but it grows with the times, and is a great place to be.
