Casa Ballena is a small, aesthetically-designed vacation home, built for me by Sayulita's favorite architect, Estela Gayosso.  The parota-wood doors open the livingroom onto the cantera-tiled terrace with the palapa providing shade and breezes, as well as entertaining space.  It is only a 6-minute walk to downtown/beach.

The casita has been totally re-furbished in Feb. 2015 --newly painted inside and out, new roof, re-sealing interior tiles and wood, new street numbers, among many other featutres.

Named for its whale fountain, Casa Ballena boasts a lovely "botanic" garden with a "cantera rustico" walkway, a palm-lined outdoor shower, a fully-equipped kitchen with a pass-through window for entertaining, and a little back yard with clothesline for those beach clothes.

The casita is located across the road from Manuel's Ranchito, and just to the left of a "glorieta" (turnaround) with a huge native "garobo" tree. The neighborhood plans to beautify the glorieta in the near future, owing to the demise of its huge blue palm.

Neighbors nearby have rental units for additional family members or larger groups who wish to be nearby.  Inquire about this.

Casa Ballena has a 4 night minimum stay.

Elegant and just like new!
Casa Ballena as of February, 2015, has been totally re-furbished -- new roof, complete interior and exterior paint with an exciting color in the outdoor shower reflecting cheer even into the house. The cantera terrace has been polished and sealed and sports new, comfortable (expensive) chairs. The management has changed and all guests are warmly welcomed.

The photo of the house from the road looks so elegant so as to have enticed people into the property who should probably be staying at The Bliss or Mayan Palace in Nuevo Vallarta. This is Sayulita where maintenance is constant and guests should realize that not everything can be perfected to Canadian or American standards, as much as we try or would like.

Extremely disappointed.
Upon arrival at a prearranged time we were met by no one. After waiting for what seemed forever, as it was late in the afternoon, we were fortunate to find a hidden key. Upon entering the house with friends we were overcome with the smell of mold and mildew. The smell persisted for the time we were there. We had been instructed not to open windows at night which made the smell overwhelming. We were not happy. As well the kitchen counters were covered in ants and there was no comfortable place to lounge: the furniture and the bed are very uncomfortable. We decided to cut our stay short and were very happy to leave.

lovely casita in Sayulita
Casa Ballena in Sayulita is a lovely casita with many fine architectural details in a nice residential neighborhood. We loved the garden and had fun spotting iguanas and tropical birds from the terrace. We especially enjoyed an authentic Mexican dinner prepared by the house staff.

highly recommend
We had an excellent stay in Jean's house. The place is like it is in the photos, very pretty and spacious, with all comforts for two people. Truly, a place very recommendable and very few minutes from the village. Definitely we would like to return!

Lovely home!
We stayed in Casa Ballena for the xmas/new year holiday. It is a lovely home very centrally located. It had everything we needed for our week long stay. We loved it! It is located on Gringo Hill, so the walk home is a little steep and not the best for anyone with difficulty walking. Perfect for a couple. The owner was very easy to work with.

We Can't Wait to Return!
Upon our arrival, we were literally speechless! From the gorgeous artwork and tasteful deisgn, to the king size bed with a view, to the outdoor seating area and the soft lighting, and the outdoor shower, right down to the tile work in the kitchen, Casa Ballena is a unique paradise. Least we not forget the stunning garden! Jean and her husband (owners) were more than superb to organize and communicate with and their Sayulita Property Manager absolutely gracious, kind and accommodating. The location is close to town, on a hill - good for a walk workout walk! We opted to rent a golf cart - sprained ankle before leaving Canada - takes less than 2 minutes to get to the main plaza in town. We wiill definitely return!

An Amazing Stay at Casa Ballena
We had the most amazing experience in Sayulita! I couldn't recommend Casa Ballena enough. It's lovely and tranquil and all the excitement in the little town and beach are accessible by foot. The location is ideal. We will definitely stay here again. There is so much to do close by....the food is incredible, the beach is beautiful. You can learn to surf, paddleboard, snorkel, dive, zip line, ride horses on the beach... or just lay on the beach and eat home baked empanadas! We can't wait to return

Casa Ballena is a great place to stay
We loved the stay in the casita! It was everything we wanted -- private, close to town and very unique. The gardens surrounding the casita, as well as the palapa, made a wonderful outdoor area to hang out in. .... it also provided a quiet place to reside when town was bustling on the weekend. The inside is open and spacious and the outdoor shower is amazing! Great place for a couple to stay.

Casa Ballena is even more beautiful in person!
Firstly, let me say that your villa is even more beautiful in person than in the photos. Normally photos make a place look better but in this case it was the opposite. Your villa was also very tastefully decorated with local furnishings and art and that really added to the full experience. Additionally the surroundings, landscaping and neighboring villas were equally as lovely. Indeed we were very impressed and comfortable and could not have wanted for more. ... we would definitely stay there again

Excellent! Location in the goldilocks zone...
I enjoyed my stay at Casa Ballena very much! I found the location to be perfect for me. It was far enough away from the town centre so that the noise of the night life didn't disturb me. It was also only a short walk to get anywhere in Sayulita. The house has some amazing architecture and artwork as well.

The only consideration would be that the location is on a hill. The walk to/from town could be challenging for anyone who has poor mobility, etc. (didn't affect me, but could easily affect others)
There are golf carts which can be rented in the town which I would recommend for anyone elderly or with mobility issues.
