Sayulita always has something exciting going on; whether it's the hustle and bustle of day-to-day activities, a surf competition, or a festive holiday. Many memories and experiences come to my mind when I think about Sayulita. Although I would love to share them all, there is one day in particular that really makes me smile.

It was just another ordinary day as I walked home after a long day at Costa Verde International School. I was accompanied by my younger brother Wheeler and his good friend Osmar.

When I return home every day, it is very common to hear skate boards riding in the skate bowl which is in the front yard of my casa. There are always the familiar faces of the locals who come and skate daily. Today however, proved to be different!

I walked up the stairs followed by Wheeler and Osmar and I saw a vaguely familiar face standing at the edge of the skate bowl. He was surrounded by photographers who were filming him while he was skating. You could tell that he was an exceptionally good skater, and he happened to be cute, too.

I said, “Hey Wheels and Osmar, check this guy out he's pretty good…"  The expressions on their faces were priceless.

Wheeler’s response was, "That's, that's, that's…”

Osmar interrupted, "Ryan Sheckler!"

"Ryan Sheckler?" I asked.

"Ya, the professional skateboarder.. Duh!" they both said back, looking at me as if I was from a different planet or had been living under a rock.

I took a second look at this so-called Ryan Sheckler. Suddenly, it clicked and I recognized who he was! I remembered the 1,001 videos of Ryan that my brother bugs me with on a daily basis. The fact that the same guy from all those videos was here at our house, in this small town, was incredible!

The star struck Wheeler and Osmar were finally able to introduce themselves without keeling over. They decided to join in on the fun by grabbing their own skateboards and they started skating with Ryan and his pals. I enjoyed it, too, even though I wasn't able to join in on the fun physically; I cannot keep my balance on a skateboard and don't like falling on cement. I have always enjoyed watching all the tricks, flips and kicks, especially from these guys that put on an outstanding performance.

After the intense, impressive skate session, the fun was coming to an end. We took a couple of photos, and I still regret not taking a selfie with Ryan!  Wheeler and Osmar asked Ryan a couple of questions and got some good skating tips. Then Ryan left with the rest of his crew, leaving skid marks in our skate bowl, and two very happy young boys.
