Matiz Restaurant in Sayulita is an excellent new addition to the restaurant scene. Located at Calle Marlin #15 inside Plaza Agora, this outdoor dining experience is the perfect combination of romantic and boho-chic atmosphere. This restaurant is literally steps from the main beach of Sayulita and is a beautiful and relaxing place to enjoy a light bite and sip on a craft cocktail before strolling down the beach to catch the sunset. The menu highlights an international-fusion cuisine, with delicious tapas inspired from Spain and amazing seafood dishes.

The tapas menu has everything you would crave from an internationally diverse menu in Sayulita, such as handmade beet and traditional hummus with veggies, papas bravas, and chicken or beef skewers. One dish that stands out between all of the tapas is the local favorite, “Tartare Matiz”. This dish contains fresh tuna, diced and seasoned with sesame seed oil, red onion, chiles, pine nuts, lime and mint and served atop a bed of lettuce and flatbread. When reading the ingredients, don’t be alarmed by the chiles or the unexpected mint. The combination of flavors and textures is amazing- something truly unique that stands out. The flavors are reminiscent of Spanish and Asian combinations with an unexpected freshness with the cooling mint. This dish is priced around $200 MXN and it is very easy to share between two people.

Another Sayulita favorite is the crispy octopus. I’ve personally had this dish three times already and every instance this plate is perfection. I find it hard to get consistently good octopus, but Matiz Restaurant does an excellent job everytime. The octopus is placed on a bed of cherry tomatoes and mixed vegetables. A side of roasted potatoes with rosemary and Spanish chorizo complete this healthy dish full of flavor and delicious, local ingredients. This dish is priced around $220 MXN and is a solid dish to enjoy by yourself, or a great dish to share along with a few tapas.

Matiz Restaurant in Sayulita is happy to accommodate all guests with all types of dietary restrictions; there are several gluten-free, vegetarian, and a vegan option available on the menu. Their hours of operation are from 5pm-11pm, and closed on Tuesdays. Be sure to check out this fantastic, one of a kind restaurant in Sayulita during your next vacation or dinning experience in town.
