Xocotla Penthouse

Xocotla (Sho-cot-la) in Sayulita, Mexico sits on a small hill overlooking the delightful fishing/surfing village. Xocotla is an indigenous Nahuatl word meaning "where the fruit trees are plentiful". A canopy of ancient white fig trees provided the name for our home, which is tucked into the corner of a huge jungle garden. Constructed in 2003/2004, Xocotla was designed by acclaimed architect Jose Enrique del Valle in conjunction with the owners, in an elegant and eco-friendly manner.  Combining the very best of modern and traditional Mexican styles, cooling ocean breezes and ceiling fans provide the only air-conditioning you might need. Enjoy the sound of the surf as it lulls you to sleep. The house is centrally located part-way up a small hill above the village in a quiet residential neighborhood. An easy 3-minute walk takes you to the village and another 2 minutes finds you at the beach. A car is not necessary to enjoy all that Sayulita has to offer, but there is parking for two small cars. Due to the design of the house, children 2 and under are not allowed.

Xocotla Penthouse is tastefully furnished and decorated with traditional handicrafts from Mexico's famous markets. The beds (either king size or two twins, and a futon depending on your needs), as well as the bed linens and bath towels, are of the highest quality. Safes are provided for your peace of mind.

Xocotla Penthouse used to be the owner's suite, and it offers a unique and spacious one-bedroom apartment experience located on the top level of the building. This special unit comes with its own private rooftop, offering stunning ocean views—a perfect spot to savor your morning coffee or enjoy afternoon happy hour drinks. The Penthouse is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a couple with two children comfortably. Inside the fully stocked kitchen, you'll find all the necessary appliances to prepare your favorite meals and create wonderful memories with your family and friends. Whether it's cooking together or simply enjoying quality time, the kitchen is equipped to meet your needs. Furthermore, every morning, you'll wake up to an incredible vista of the ocean and the lush garden surroundings. The sight of the ocean from the Penthouse is nothing short of breathtaking, making your stay truly unforgettable.

In the garden, shared with the other two units on the property, you will find the heated pool and a large terrace. A shallow dipping pool overflows from a waterfall to a larger pool below, which has a sunken bench set into a stone grotto. The terrace also has a large stone grill which can be shared by all. At night, a pleasing ambiance is created by soft lights in old fishing baskets suspended from a branch of the giant fig tree. A delightful bridge crosses the arroyo to another terrace in the far garden and a hammock, providing yet more sitting areas.  

Xocotla is ideal as a place for family or friends to vacation together with the luxury of separate apartments, allowing everyone to have their privacy while providing several areas in which to congregate. Or come to stay in one apartment and perhaps forge new and lasting friendships.
