April 14, 2004 (Vendors in the Sayulita Plaza)

Last night the local vendors consisting of mainly South American jewelers, held a peaceful demonstration to protest a new municipal law barring any type of non-licensed sales in the plaza. The town of Sayulita has prohibited individual vendors from displaying their wares in the plaza since before Christmas and has designated an area next to the baseball field for the selling activity. However, in recent days "out if town" vendors had begun setting up shop with no interference from town officials.

The result was a confirmation of and "promise to enforce" the ordinance by the Sayulita and municipal officials. Only the native Huichal Indians will be permitted to sell their wares in the square.
