Surf lessons, La Lancha trips and board rentals in Sayulita.

Marea Surf School is a small, local surf school in the center of Sayulita, by the river. Since 2015 we’ve been getting first-timers standing up, helping surfers level up, and taking everyone to the best waves of the day. Families, couples, friends and solo travelers: welcome.

Surf lessons in Sayulita
90 minutes with an experienced local instructor, in small groups of max 4 surfers. We start on the sand with the basics, then head into the water together until you’re riding your own waves. Board and rash guard included. Kids are welcome from age 5, as long as they can swim. From $1,200 MXN per person.

La Lancha surf trip: our favourite
Hop into our open-top truck and ride 25 minutes through the jungle to La Lancha, a quiet beach near Punta de Mita with clear water and no vendors or umbrellas. There’s a left and a right for experienced surfers, plus a beginner area on the sandbar.

Surf on your own: your guide explains the break from the beach, then the waves are yours. From $700 MXN.

Add a lesson: 90 minutes with your instructor, then time to relax on the beach. From $1,700 MXN.

Tag along: come for the ride and the beach. $600 MXN.

Trips leave daily at 2 p.m. (any group size), and at 7 a.m. for groups of 4 or more. About 4 hours in total, with transport, board and rash guard included.

Our 3- and 5-day lesson packages are the easy alternative to a surf camp: a lesson every day, in Sayulita, at La Lancha or both, and you stay wherever you like.

The perfect lesson :)

My husband and I have wanted to try surfing for a long time. We finally got to try it with Marea Surf School and we had a great experience! Our instructor, Omar, was patient, supportive, and explained the techniques so clearly that both my husband and I managed to stand up on our boards right away. We will definitely return for another lesson and to rent boards.

The best time

Amazing lesson with Omar. Had me up on my feet in no time. He is a great teacher. Highly recommend trying this place if you are new to the area and surfing. Omar gave advice on hiking trails, local beaches and good places to eat.

Omar is amazing at teaching I got up and surfed at least 5 waves in less than an hour my very first time on a board. He teaches you to be safe and how to stand like a pro. He’s an amazing teacher and a great person to know in Sayulita for taco restaurants and local things as well. Great teachers great prices, great boards, you will surf same day. Anyone can, have a great time and go.

Great for any skill level

Had a great experience with Marea Surf School, with other experiences in Sayulita, we looked for a surf school with less attitude and more focus on the students.
Marea is very welcoming and flexible and adapt to the capability of the students. We had two kids 14 and 16 who had never been on a board, with great guidance and confidence built by the instructor Omar, both of them were standing up on a wave after 30 minutes.

If you are looking for a surf school with warm, humble and welcoming instructors, this is your place!

The best surf trip ever!

The la lancha trip was the best surf trip I’ve ever been on! Playa la lancha was such an amazing beach to surf, and Mareas had best vibe and some of the nicest people you’ll meet! The staff are all super knowledgeable and great teachers in and out of the water. We’ll definitely be coming back to sayulita and to mareas!
