DO NOT Stay Here, Avoid Sayulita
My family of 5 had a lovely first night in rooms A5 and A7 and then moved into C1 the second night. We went out for dinner and when we returned, the entire area around our room wreaked of toxic paint thinner. We went inside our room with all the windows open and the fans on, and tried to deal with the smell but our three young children were complaining about the smell and we could feel a tightening in our chests from the intense smell. We tried to close all the windows and just deal with it but the strong, toxic chemical smells were seeping through the sealing and it was especially bad in the bunk bed room where our youngest kids were going to sleep.

Finally at 8pm my husband went to talk to the receptionist, she came down to our room and agreed it was a very strong smell. We asked if we could move into another room where the toxic chemical smell wasn't so strong and she said there were no other rooms. The receptionist suggested we call Azul Pitaya in case they could give us a room for free due to the inconvenience so we called and they said they could get us two rooms but that we would have to pay for them, so we paid $300 USD on top of the Casablanca room.

My husband is a contractor and has decades of experience working with paints and said that was the most toxic smell he'd ever smelled and that it was incredibly harmful for the brains and lungs of our children so we had to leave. We finally arrived to Azul Pitaya at 9:30pm (my kids go to bed at 7pm so this was a huge inconvenience) and Patricia was very kind. On the other hand, the staff at Casablanca did not do anything to help us.

I have never heard of a hotel applying such a heavy load of toxic paint with guests right above, it was very unprofessional and I hope they don't do that again to future guests. At least they agreed to refund us for the night, but I will never return there again. As a matter of fact, I will never return to Sayulita. It was an incredibly dirty town with piles of garbage everywhere, a big party scene and we spoke to dozens of people who were ill vomiting and with diarrhea since the sewage pipe burst into the ocean the week before we arrived. Gross!

If you want to travel to this area, much better you avoid Sayuita altogether and instead stay in Lo De Marcos or San Pancho.

Excellent Service and Location
We loved staying here because it is beachfront on the north side, less busy, fewer vendors. Super easy beach access. We enjoyed the room because it was spacious and met our expectations. Their customer service was excellent they went above and beyond to make sure our family had a pleasant stay, especially Matty, the front desk receptionist who helped me find a hairstylist and makeup artist last minute. She made sure we had transportation for my nephew’s daily wedding activities. Alvaro the hotel manager was very accommodating to our needs and requests. The night guard Nelton was very helpful in getting us into our room when we arrived late at night. Carmen was very helpful in helping me set up beach chairs in front of the hotel. Alondra, the maid, made sure our room was sparkling clean daily. The only remark I have is that there is no elevator & no phones in the rooms to communicate to the front desk. Overall, a wonderful stay. I will recommend this hotel to any friends who want to visit Sayulita

Paradise
This was our first visit to Sayulita. My procrastination in booking a room left me with one choice - the Casablanca Penthouse. The location is absolutely perfect - Northside, secluded and peaceful. 5-minute walk and you're in town. We were there during a heat wave - for February. The Penthouse is on the top floor, the fourth floor - no elevator. It is a beautiful space, the views are incredible - very impressive. Only the master bedroom is air-conditioned. The rest of the space can get warm - relatively speaking. The entire hotel is very clean. We watched the staff literally scrubbing the area around the pool, the walkways, steps, etc. The pool was awesome - very clean and heated. Beach access is good and you are far enough north to avoid the crowds. The crashing of the waves is constant - and loud - I loved it. The staff was very friendly - and very helpful for us - transportation, medical, local recommendations - language can be a barrier. The Penthouse is a tropical Pacific paradise (for 2)

Highly Recommend!
We stayed in the Main House for a week to celebrate my in-laws 50th Wedding Anniversary. We had a party of 14, so we also rented a few rooms in the hotel as well.

The private pool overlooking the beach was perfect for watching all the fun in the ocean (which has bigger waves when we were there) without struggling with the sand (for mobility issues).

The accommodations were great and staff super accommodating!

The pictures online do not show details of the kitchen. The fridge is full-sized and ice is available at the front desk. There is no oven, only a stovetop.

Since this is north of the river, there are not a lot of vendors, but they are present if you are looking for a deal.

We would definitely stay here again!
