Captain Cesar Dumay's Fishing and Snorkelling in Sayuilta - OUR EXPERIENCE AT YOUR SERVICE!

Captain Cesar Plascencia, born and raised here in Sayulita to a fisherman's family, has spent more days in the local Sayulita waters than anyone else.  Coming from a family of fishermen, Captain Cesar has always earned his living from the sea and looks forward to welcoming you to his boat where everyone ALWAYS has a great time and luck to catch fish!

  • Mahi Mahi (Dorado)
  • Red Snapper
  • Spanish Macarel
  • Jack Crevalle
  • Pampano
  • Tuna
  • Rooster Fish

The safety of Captain Cesar Dumay's Fishing and Snorkeling boat passengers and crew is Captain Cesar's number one concern.  That is why the boat carries a radio that is always in contact with family on shore, a GPS system, flares and lifejackets for everyone.  Though never having had an accident Dumay boat trips are totally prepared should the unexpected occur.

Captain Cesar Dumay's Fishing and Snorkeling boat has been completely designed for fishing and offers:

  • Swivel chairs
  • Live baitwell
  • Comfortable cushions
  • Canopy for shade
  • Plenty of seating

Captain Cesar and crew are very experienced and know where to find the fish.  We will go out the day before and catch all the baitfish so you don't have to wait in the morning when all you want is to go fishing.  You will see for yourself just how much all of us LOVE fishing.

All equipment is provided.  We use quality rods and reels with names like Penn and Shimano.  We have light and heavy tackle. We know what to use, when and where in order to make sure you catch fish.  You can be guaranteed that if fish are in the area, you will catch them in our boat.

Snorkeling on Captain Cesar Dumay's Fishing and Snorkeling boat is a great experience for your group or family.  We can arrange for a fishing/snorkeling combination trip or devote the entire boat to snorkeling.  All equipment is provided (spearfishing too if you prefer).  We take trips to the Marieta Islands where the fish reserve provides outstanding opportunities to see large schools of beautiful tropical fish.  The jungle scenery from the boat during the trip is outstanding.

We really look forward to welcoming you to Sayulita and on our fishing boat, The Dumays.

Keen fisho from Australia
I've fished in many countries chasing all types of fish but it's the captain and crew that makes for a awesome trip, the crew worked hard to get the live bait then off to chase mahi mahi, these boys know there stuff, skipper Cesar told me the technique and after a hunt we hit the spot, at times we had triple hookups with fish jumping all round us. We took only what we needed and with sore forearms (only mine) we headed home. The boys cleaned our catch, i took 2 fish which feed 5 of us for two days and Cesar made sure the crew and locals were well feed too. The guys smiled and joked from start to finish which made my trip. If you get a chance don't hesitate

Caesar a real pro!
He was so confident we'd catch fish that he took my gamble that if we didnt catch anything i could pay less, but i'd have to pay more if we did. Don't test his skills! 15 shark, 3 mahi mahi, and a wahoo later, i learned my lesson.

He's a quality guy and took good care of my dad when he got sea sick. Caesar and his first mate work their butts off to make sure you have a good time. I'll be calling him again next time i'm in Sayulita.

Fantastic Authentic Fishing experience
Cesar and his helper were awesome from the start. We found Cesar by way of Adriana, who works at a local office in the north end of town, who met us at the boat that morning though she didn't need to. She was a welcomed, smiling face who made sure we were well taken care of, until handed over to Cesar...Cesar is a professional at what he does, no doubt. He knows his business, gets the ocean, and definitely knows how to fish!! From scouting out sardines near punta mita to trolling for larger fish after we saw it jump out of the water, to having his spots marked by buoys...he makes the entire day enjoyable, smooth, and fun!! Oh, and he serenades you with his classic Mexican songs as he charges across the water spot to spot. A definite must if visiting Sayulita. Turns out he is a cousin to our airport driver from Sayulita Luxury Transportation Hugo, who I'll also be reviewing five stars. Good good people down there. Will be back, and will be fishing with Cesar!! Thanks for the beers too!

Awesome time for a large group!
I had an awesome time with a large group of around 20 people. The group consisted of primarily younger people who were in Sayulita for a wedding. We had 2 boats go out for fishing while 2 boats went out for snorkeling. After we met on a private beach where the crew prepared us some fresh sashimi and ceviche which were DELICIOUS. We had some ice cold beer and magaritas to match. We were out for a LONG time in total (6+ hrs) and enjoyed every minute of it.

Caesar was accommodating and easy to work with. The crew worked very hard to show us a good time and was VERY entertaining. I would certainly recommend.

They worked hard to make it a good experience
We brought two families including 5 kids between the ages of 4-10. Ceasar and his mate, Hermancio (sp?), were great. We weren't looking to land the biggest fish, but just hopefully make sure that everyone had a chance to reel one in. It was a slow going morning at the start, with lots of waiting for bites, however they kept the boat moving to different locations and trying different techniques (trolling versus casting). Ceasar was great with explaining what he was doing and why. Later in the morning, we finally started to get some bites. One of the kids hadn't caught one towards the tail end, and even though we had hit our time limit, he kept us out there until the last kid got one (thank goodness). He cut up one of the fish on the boat while we were coming home and let us try some sashimi - kids loved it. Even though we were well beyond our finishing time, he took the time onshore to fillet our fish and bag them for us to take home. We had a terrific dinner that night of skipjack, spanish mackerel, and bonito. Ceasar is great and well worth hiring for a day's excursion.

Great fishing!
We caught some big fish and Caesar and his guys showed us a great time on the water, and then cleaned & cut up our fish for us so we could take it home and make the best ceviche I've ever had. We will come back for sure!

Caesar the best!
Had a great day on the water with Caesar, although all we caught were snapper. That's all anyone was catching for the last couple weeks. We caught a lot though and I'll take any fishing action when our lakes have 3 feet of ice on them. He put us on the fish a few times after we had no luck trying other species. Would go back with him any day, and I will. Hope to see you in November Caesar. Thank you.

BE careful
Trying to be honest, so here goes... We contacted Caesar weeks in advance asking questions about what to expect. I realize its called fishing and not catching, but when askingCaesar what they had been catching his reply was "dorado (mahi mahi). I thought perfect, when we arrived. I asked again, Caesar's reply this time...snapper. I asked about the dorado, he no no they are way too small we are only catching snapper. But I had already paid the deposit. Even worse, all we did was drive the boat out to where the locals were fishing. If I wanted to bottom fish, we never would have done it. They didn't even have live bait on board, the rods were way outdated, and I found myself doing all the work. I was baiting my own line, taking the fish off. What did I pay for?? Just overfall feeling of deceit. When asking other Fishing charters about what to expect they were honest. Replying that the fishing is off for this time of year, usually we are catching ..., but not right now. This didnt happen here. Really disappointed for the amount of money we paid.

Alex, Thank you for your honest review of your experience. Our fishing tours allow our guests a full immersion of the fishing experience- from baiting to catching filleting the fish. Of course, this is not mandatory you do it all, we just know that experienced fishermen enjoy this experience. You're always welcome at anytime to tell the captain or your tour guide you wish to have assistance.
Please be aware that the catch changes frequently depending on our weather, and season. If your reservation was weeks in advanced, at that time dorado may have been in season, while during the time of your fishing experience there may be other fish available for catching.
We are sorry to hear your experience was less than satisfactory and hope you can enjoy another fishing experience in Sayulita after the rainy season (typically after October). Gracias!
Caesar
