Free Supplies for Sayulita Students
By
Patricia Duarte

August is almost gone and schools have already begun the school year all over Mexico. Sayulita, our beloved town is no exception. Kids between 4 and 17 years old will attend Sayulita's kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools, while the little ones go to the Guarderia in El Mangal area.  During this last week, Nayarit State Government distributed school supplies to all students across the entire state of Nayarit.

As an effort for the students (and their parents) to have no excuse for failure to attend the classes, the government distributed notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and even calculators to all the kids in the elementary and secondary schools. Every student, no exceptions, received a package with school supplies directly from the hands of school and ejido authorities.

In the Sayulita secondary school, Sr. Manuel Rodriguez Trujillo, President of the Parents Association, Sr. Jose Cruz Rodriguez, Temporary Comisariado Ejidal of Sayulita, and Sr. Jesus Rodriguez Ahumada, Sayulita judge, personally welcomed all students to school and helped distribute school supplies.

We trust all of the students will make great use of these supplies and the can take advantage of them to build a better future for themselves and for our beloved Sayulita!

6. Employment/business history: I did Apprentice work at Eugene Country Club and then worked there for 2 years. During college I also worked for 3 and half years with disabled children teaching them basic cooking and cleaning skills. After college I worked for Delta Catering Company as an executive chef and head pastry chef for 20 years. At this job I used to work 28 days straight and 14 days off which allowed me a lot of time to travel. I came to Sayulita in the late 80's and I bought a house here. I went back and forth between my job in the USA and coming to my house here in Sayulita. This year I opened my own bakery here in town and now I live here full time.

7.  One positive change you have seen in Sayulita? Only one? There are many like the sewage system, the education system, the overall upkeep of the town and I think the quality of life for everyone has improved.

8.  One negative change you have seen in Sayulita? I really can't think of anything that I can say is really negative. I see no real negative change in Sayulita and most importantly Sayulita still has a certain magic about it.

9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I imagine Sayulita will keep improving with lamp posts, sidewalks, benches and parks. I see Sayulita as a small Metropolitan in 10 years.
9. Cómo imagina Sayulita en 10 años?  Me imagino Sayulita continuara mejorando con lámparas, banquetes, bancas, y parques. Veo Sayulita como pequeño metropolitano en 10 anos.

10. Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? It would make me happy to see more trash cans and recycling bins placed outside of businesses and along the streets. There isn't a trash can from the bridge to downtown and if there were more trash bins people will be less likely to litter. We need to work together to keep Sayulita clean and not through our garbage on the streets.
