On August 4th the peso reached a 6 year high but has since crashed 19.1% to a record low of 14.2927 pesos to a U.S. dollar, trading in Vallarta at 12.85 to the dollar and in Sayulita at 10.85. The peso tumbled a mighty 13.8% on Wednesday - the biggest intraday drop since a government devaluation in 1994 - but steadiead at 12.1770 to the dollar. It is expected that the U.S. dollar / peso exchange rate will remain above 11 for some time.

Tamara Edwards, Upi Viteri, and Sara Briner have begun preparations to open a free spaying and neutering clinic here in Sayulita.
The name of the clinic is SayulitAnimals and will be opening on approximately November 1st, 2008. The location will be just off the main road at Calle Manuel Plascencia #3. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free spaying and neutering to all dogs and cats in Sayulita, in order to cut down on the amount of un-loved animals in our town.
The organization is in critical need of all types of donations and could use everything from monetary donations to assorted materials and supplies. The goal is to one day get the schools involved in educating young people on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets as well as to eventually provide Sayulita with a full service veterinary operation.
Right now the organization performs hands-on work by picking up unwanted dogs off the street and bathing them, as well as removing fleas and ticks. Another one of the goals is to get the young people of Sayulita involved in this process as well.

Después de discutir esto con mis dos amigas Tamra Edwards de Canadá, Upi Viteri de México, y yo, Sara Briner de Suiza, decidimos abrir una clínica gratuita para esterilizaciones, aquí en Sayulita. El nombre de la Clínica es SayulitAnimals y será abierta aproximadamente el 1º de noviembre. La clínica estará justo donde termina el camino principal en la Calle Manuel Plasencia #3.
Es una organización sin fines de lucro, dedicada a proveer esterilizaciones gratuitas para todos los perros y gatos en Sayulita, para así poder disminuir la cantidad de animales sin dueño en nuestro pueblo.La organización tiene una necesidad crítica: necesitamos donaciones de todo tipo y podríamos usar cualquier donación desde monetaria hasta materiales y suministros.
Nuestra meta es que un día las escuelas se involucren en educar a la gente joven en la importancia de la esterilización de sus mascotas, así como, eventualmente, proveer a Sayulita con un servicio completo de servicio veterinario.
Ahora estamos trabajando recogiendo perros que nadie quiere en las calles, bañándolos, así como quitando pulgas y garrapatas. Otra de nuestras metas es que la gente joven de Sayulita se involucre en este proceso, también. | Circus in Sayulita

The first event of the 2008 winter calendar took place this last week when the Circus of Columbia presented by William's Circus wheeled into town. Setting up their "Big Top" at the Plaza del Torros, five main acts were presented to well attended performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday but there has been little interest during the week. The troupe consists of a strong man come tiger tamer, a 6 piece acrobat team, a 4 piece drumming and tumbling act, 5 young clowns and a lady high wire artist. In previous years the William's Circus was larger with a mini zoo and set up on the baseball field, but changing times including the difficulty of obtaining permits for exotic animals has seen the size of such traveling shows shrink and may soon come to town no more.
El primer evento de invierno de 2008 se llevó a cabo la agenda la semana pasada cuando el Circo de Columbia William presentado por el Circo de ruedas en la ciudad. 5. Family history & information: My father is a fisherman and my Brothers do boat tours and snorkelling trips. I have 4 children ages 22, 16, 14, 13. The three youngest are in school and the older one also works in tourism in Sayulita.

6. Employment/business history: 15 years ago I started selling candies, fruits and vegetables outside my house. I started with 2 tables outside and then I bought a blender and juicer to make smoothies and vegetable juices. In time I started making tortas and sandwiches and my clientele started to increase.
6. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: Hace 15 anos vendía dulces, frutas y verduras afuera mi casa. Empecé con dos mesas afuera y luego compre una licuadora, y jugadora para hacer licuados y jugos de verduras. Con el tiempo empecé a hacer tortas y sándwiches y mi clientela empezó a aumentar.
7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita? There are more job opportunities for everyone and more money is being invested into our town. The increased tourism is positive for the entire town. Everybody helps take better care of Sayulita now. That is one of the reasons tourists keep coming back because it's a clean town.
7. Algún cambio positivo que haya observado en Sayulita? Hay mas oportunidades de trabajos para todos y hay mas inversiones en el pueblo. El turismo que ha aumentado es positivo para todo el pueblo. Ahora todos ayudan a cuidar Sayulita. Es por eso que los turistas regresan, porque el pueblo esta limpio.
8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita? More unknown people are arriving to Sayulita who come from all over Mexico and there have been more cases of theft and crimes in the last couple of years.
8. Algún cambio negativo que haya observado en Sayulita? Hay mas gente desconocida de otros lados de México llegando a Sayulita y ha habido mas casos de ladrones y delincuencias en los últimos anos.
9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I imagine Sayulita very different from the way it is now. All in all I think Sayulita will be a better place in time as long as the government helps improve the town and the police help fight crime.
9. Cómo imagina Sayulita en 10 años? Me imagino que Sayulita va a cambiar mucho de cómo esta ahorita. En general creo que Sayulita será un mejor lugar con el tiempo mientras el gobierno ayude a mejorar el pueblo y el policía ayude el pueblo contra la delincuencia.
10. Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? I recommend that everyone visit our beautiful beach and coastline and pick up their garbage when they leave to help keep Sayulita clean. We also have to teach our children to take care of our environment and teach them not to thrown their trash just anywhere.
10. Alguna recomendación o comentario que quiera hacer a la gente de Sayulita? Recomiendo a todos que visiten las hermosas playas y la costa y recojan la basura cuando se vayan para ayudar a mantener Sayulita limpio. Hay que enseñar a nuestros hijos que cuiden el medio ambiente y enseñarles que no tiren la basura por dondequiera.
