The trash is picked up, there is room to park on the streets, residents have their beaches back, and guess what? That's right, the street (or should I say boulevard) entering Sayulita is now OPEN!
Bueno, casi se puede sentir el gigante colectivo suspiro de alivio como Sayulita hace a través de otra Semana Santa. The main road has had its various set backs of recent months. Many visitors and residents alike have awaited the opening of the new street, which finally became a reality on Thursday morning, April 16, 2009.
However, the first few hours of the new thoroughfare brought a flurry of controversy among certain businesses. Jorge Diaz, a restaurant owner who operates his taco business on the main street was first to lodge a complaint stating speed bumps are non-existent on the entire length of the road.
Diaz states "Modes of transportation, be it cars motorcycles, etc... have used an alternate route through the Tamarindo neighborhood for months, which is filled with a variety of methods of speed moderation. Today they came speeding up and down the street, not only creating a flurry of dust and debris, but a serious risk for people crossing, children playing, and dogs."
On the other hand, Magdalena Rodriguez, who owns a small convenience store in the center of the main street, is simply thankful to see the traffic.
When the Sayulita mayor/judge was contacted by SayulitaLife.com regarding the possibility of placing the speed bumps along the main road, he pointed out that it is out of his control and suggested that those who are in favor of installing them gather a petition of signatures and subsequently submit it directly to him.
Nuevo Camino se Abre en la Controversia
La carretera principal ha tenido sus reveses de los últimos meses. Muchos visitantes y residentes han esperado la apertura de la nueva calle, que finalmente se hizo realidad el jueves por la tarde, 16 de abril de 2009.
Las primeras horas de la nueva vía que sin embargo de una gran controversia entre algunas empresas. Jorge, propietario de un restaurante que opera su negocio de tacos en la calle principal fue el primero en presentar una denuncia. La queja es que la falta de badenes, topes o en español, que se utilizan para ralentizar el tráfico se extiende a lo largo de ocupados no existen en toda la longitud de la carretera.
Modos de transporte, ya sea coches motos, etc ... han utilizado una ruta alternativa a través del barrio Tamarindo de meses, que se llena con una variedad de métodos de moderación de la velocidad. Hoy en día, la aceleración y vienen por la calle, no sólo la creación de una ráfaga de polvo y suciedad, sino un riesgo grave para las personas que cruzan, niños jugando y perros.
Por otra parte, Magdalena, que posee una pequeña tienda en el centro de la calle principal, no es más que agradecidos para ver el tráfico.
Cuando el alcalde Noe se puso en contacto con respecto a la posibilidad de colocar a los badenes a lo largo de la carretera principal, señaló que está fuera de su control, y sugirió que quienes están a favor de la instalación de ellos, para recoger una petición de firmas y posteriormente presentar directamente a él.

Corett has published a new letter confirming there will be no deals on regularization of local lands.
When some Sayulita homeowners returned to town last fall, they received a potentially unwelcome notice: The Commission for Regularization of Land Tenure - also known as CORETT - provided notice they will be heading into the next phase of regularization process for local lands.
CORETT is not new. According to the federal organization´s website, it was launched in 1973 to regularize land ownership, particulary illegal settlements and promote the acquisition of land for urban development.
Locals who purchased houses and land using the "presdanombre" or name lender system here are being asked to pay a set price per square metre - $800 pesos - to title their land (a further bank trust step would be required for non-citizens to "regularize"). CORETT has advertised a 50 per cent discount plus an additional 20 per cent reduction for those who pay right away in one lump sum.
While some (estimates suggest about 30 owners) have paid since last October, others are banding together, asking for a lower price of around $150 pesos per square metre. Rumours suggest a class action lawsuit could result, as some owners claim foreigners should not have to pay a higher price than Mexican citizens.
On March 31 of this year, Armando Rodriguez Cervantes, the director of operations for CORETT, sent out a letter (click to read) regarding the Sayulita rumours about regularization. In it, he states that the prices for Mexican people without means are in place for their social benefit - they cannot pay the full price. He adds that the price in Sayulita remains $800 pesos per square metre: however, the $320 pesos discount price is still available. He concludes by stating unequivicolly there is no alternative deal in the works. In other words, rumours the price for some will be reduced to $150 pesos per square metre are not true, according to CORETT.
The letter is posted at the local CORETT office in Sayulita, on the main road heading into town. However, if you want to read it bring a translater, as it only exists in Spanish.

Corett Confirma "el precio es el precio!"
Corett ha publicado una nueva carta de confirmación no se trata sobre la regularización de las tierras.
Cuando algunos Sayulita viviendas regresaron a la ciudad el otoño pasado, recibieron un aviso potencialmente no deseado: La Comisión para la Regularización de la Tenencia de la Tierra - también conocido como CORETT - Aviso siempre que la partida será en la próxima fase del proceso de regularización de tierras locales.

In almost every sporting event or competition you end up with winners and losers. Unfortunately, on Saturday, April 8, 2009, there were only losers. In this case, it was the village of Sayulita and the hundreds of people of all ages and a few horses as well.
The event was enthusiastically promoted by Darrel Hiatt, a Sayulita regular for 11 years, his partner Katie, and many others who for over four months worked diligently on obtaining the proper permits which included walking the entire course with a government official.
According to Hiatt, on Friday afternoon, the day before the event, he and his crew were putting the finishing touches on the river course. At this point authorities in approximately seven trucks with uniformed officers as well as plain clothes officials entered the river. They stated the Sayulita Grand Prix was canceled, confiscated two tractors and politely escorted Hiatt and a friend to the local detention facility in Valle de Banderas. On the way Hiatt asked officials how could this happen? They simply asked if he was hungry and stopped for tacos and a beer before continuing on. Hiatt and his partners were held for three hours in a separate part of a detention facility and were released without being charged.
After returning to Sayulita, all sponsors and co-promoters were informed of the cancellation. Participants form as far away as Guadalajara, were sadly turned away from the competition. Michelle Richards on the bright side stated, " At least now I have time to train harder for when the event does occur". When asked if this was a possibility, Hiatt responded, " As long as the people want it and the permits are 100% accurate, I will definitely do it again.

Gran Premio de Sayulita Cancelado
En prácticamente todos los acontecimientos deportivos, o la competencia que al final con ganadores y perdedores. Lamentablemente, el sábado, 8 de abril de 2009, sólo hubo perdedores. En este caso, este fue el pueblo de Sayulita y la de las 100 personas de todas las edades y algunos caballos. Uno de los participantes, Estala Defagot, un prerregistradas corredor, era extremadamente decepcionado por no poder participar en el Gran Premio inaugural de Sayulita.
El evento fue promovido con entusiasmo por Darryl, un Sayulita reular durante 11 años, su pareja Katie y muchos otros que por más de 4 meses trabajado diligentemente en la obtención de los permisos, inclusive el ir a pie todo el curso con un funcionario gubernamental.
Según Darryl, el viernes por la tarde, el día antes del evento, él y su tripulación fueron dando los últimos toques en el curso del río. En este punto, las autoridades de aproximadamente 7 camiones con agentes armados, así como los funcionarios vestidos de paisano entró en el río. Declararon el Gran Premio de Sayulita se canceló, confiscados 2 tractores y educadamente acompañado Darryl y un amigo de los locales de detención en el Valle. En el camino de los funcionarios se les preguntó cómo pudo suceder esto? Se preguntó si tenía hambre y se detuvo para Tacos y una cerveza antes de continuar. Que se celebraron durante 3 horas en una parte separada de la instalación y puesto en libertad sin cargos.
Después de regresar a Sayulita, todos los patrocinadores y co-promotores fueron informados de la cancelación. Los participantes de lugares tan lejanos como Guadalajara, por desgracia se alejó de la competencia. The Story: Lulu was brought to Sayulitanimals by people who thought she was a homeless street dog. They found her near the beach on Calle Navarrete, in very poor condition. Marco, our in-house vet, began treating her condition immediately.
Sayulitanimals soon discovered Lulu was not a street dog, but actually had an owner. They talked to him about what to do with Lulu to treat the mange but the owner had no interest whatsoever.
Lulu has been living at the Sayulitanimals clinic ever since and her skin condition is much better and not contagious anymore.
She is an exceptionally happy dog that loves to run around and play with a big smile on her face. She needs a caring home and to be with someone who appreciates and respects her lively happy nature.

As the crowds gently fade and the season winds down, some may wonder who is driving up and down their neighborhood streets. One vehicle for sure is the friendly neighborhood Water Conservation Council truck.
According to Edgar Lopez Placencia and Immelda Guerrero Tapi, maintenance workers at the plant, keeping all the streets and alleys of Sayulita clean is a job done by only two people. These two have a giant responsibility.
The truck contains 13,500 liters of non-consumable water. This water is distributed to the various neighborhoods on a regular basis and used to clean the streets. They run the truck in two shifts Monday through Saturday between 4 PM until approximately 7 PM, the other shift runs from midnight until approximately 8 AM.
I am sure everyone has noticed the huge influx of visitors over the past couple of weeks and at one point must have wondered how the streets remain in such good condition. Even with the massive crowds, the Water Conservation Council helps keep Sayulita streets clean.
The water conservation council is located on the bank of the river, only a block from the beach. Here you can pay your water bill, as well as get a first hand look at how the water system works in Sayulita.

Estoy seguro de que todo el mundo se ha dado cuenta de la enorme afluencia de visitantes durante el último par de semanas y en un punto se han preguntado cómo las calles permanecen en tan buenas condiciones. Incluso con las enormes multitudes, el Consejo de Conservación de Agua ayuda a mantener limpias sus calles.
