There are two things I noticed at River Café. The Angus Rib Eye Steak was delicious and savory--a good piece of beef with an enticing sauce with a pepper and cognac base. The second is the service, which is very attentive and helpful without being all over you like a cheap suit.

It also doesn’t hurt that the décor is lovely and soft with a lot of spaces between tables.

We started with excellent margaritas—mine was nice and tart and definitely got the appetite in first gear. The two first courses we enjoyed were an excellent Asparagus Cream Soup, tinted with hints of garlic and thyme, and a lovely Roasted Pear Salad with blue cheese vinaigrette. The warm, caramelized pear played nicely against the cold, creamy lettuce.

All very good, indeed, but the steak was worth writing home about. I heard that the portion was quite large, so, forewarned, we order one steak for the two of us and, even in cut in half, it was a very filling and satisfying portion. The steak was garnished with potato wedges and sautéed vegetables.

River Café is right by the bridge and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Make sure to have the steak at dinner. It is reported that the hamburger at lunch is tops, so that’s next!
