As you are most likely aware, Casa Namaste experienced a traumatic event approximately 20 days ago. If it had not been for this spectacular community, for my caring neighbors, for the volunteer fireman, the lifeguards, and many others that I am unable to name, not only would have Casa Namaste been more badly damaged by fire, but many more homes would have been potentially damaged.

It is rare these days that we see such a tightly knit community that pulls together to help each other in a time of need. This lovely Puebla of Sayulita is not only paradise to our senses, it is magical in the heart of its people, its community and its spirit.

When the fire occurred, I was driving back from Puerto Vallarta. There was a phone call saying that the garage was on fire. It was a long, silent ride home, filled with anticipation and concern. When we got to Calle Ninos Heroes, the road was blocked off and we weren't allowed to go up to the area of the fire, though by this time it was out.

The house manager had been called by a neighbor and he was able to come over almost immediately and consult with the response team.  All involved were very professional and caring.

By some uncanny luck, the winds were calm that Monday evening. As neighbors described there were flames shooting up twenty feet and smoke that went up much higher than that. Apparently the smoke plume after going straight up, then was taken by the wind. So grateful the wind was not swooping down to ground level.

Sparks did ignite the palapas along the west side of the house, windows were charred, and glass broken from heat. Even with all of this, there was very little damage to the interior of the building.

I want to personally thank my manager, his brother, the electrician, carpenters, palapas craftsmen, painter, cleaners, and contractor who came to a rapid rescue and got us back to almost as good as we were before the fire (the garage is still in planning stages for repair).

Thank you Sayulita for being such an exceptional community, thank you Pro Sayulita for the infrastructure/ fire truck and volunteer firemen.

Even though this fire was traumatic, I felt the warmth and strength that come when we are supported by other. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.
