So, there's a new band in town? Tell us the name and a little bit about your members.

We are a duet, and we call ourselves Estrella Luz, or Starlight. Gerardo Ramirez Campos is on guitar and I am singing. Gerardo has been playing at different venues around Sayulita for years. He plays many different styles of music so well, and I love that he and I are playing Jazz together.

What type of music are you crooning?

We are doing Jazz standards from the 40s and 50s, lovely songs that usually have a big band behind them, but are so different and evocative when pared down to voice and guitar.

What are some old/new influences that inspired your current set list?

I was lucky enough to work on a compilation album years ago with my band, Mauve Sideshow, which had jazz classics covered by experimental groups. We covered When Malindy Sings and I was hooked on these beautiful songs. I have always wanted to have the opportunity to challenge myself with these much loved songs. Estrella Luz has a nice balance of torch songs and Cole Porter type tunes in our line up.

What made you want to start (another) band in Sayulita?

I love the music scene in Sayulita. There are great venues and great musicians here. Los Gatos Negros is a fantastic band and I loved playing with them. I hope that someday we can do a collaboration-- punk jazz standards would be incredible. But, honestly I think started Estrella Luz mainly because I wanted to play music and still be in bed by 11!

Are you guys/gals dressed to play the part when you hit the stage?

I love the retro vibe, I'm a gal who wants to be wearing heels and red lipstick every day. I hope that the Martini Nights at Don Pedro's will be a chance for Sayulita to take off the swim trunks and dust off their fancy duds.

Where/when can folks catch this new groovy entertainment?

We will be playing at Don Pedro's Martini nights on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. They are making some classic drinks and special tapas for the night, come by and have a Cosmopolitan and Starlight Jazz!

Is this a short or long term band creation? Will you be around to play for us in the summer?

I hope we will be around for a long time! I would love to grow the band, with guests sitting in and adding their own edge to the songs. I would love for it to be an ever changing -ever growing musical collaboration. We will be in Guanajuato in June and then back in Sayulita in September.

Any advice for you Sayulita musicians out there getting ready to start their own bands?

My advice is get out there and play. We have so many venue options in Sayulita. I heard a new Sayulita band called Love Cats that I would like to see play live, kids-- just get out there and play!
