people enjoying Sayulita Public HousePublic House, a popular spot for both locals and tourists, first opened its doors in Sayulita in February of 2012. However, as of September 23, 2016, this pub relocated to its new location on the plaza. Owners Storm Richardson and Courtney Bialy sit down with El Sayulero to share the latest news about Public House.

What is the concept behind Public House in Sayulita?

Casual watering hole with great food, craft beer, and cocktails.

What is the general bar scene like in Sayulita and how is Public House set apart?

The bar scene is Sayulita has something for everyone, from dining and having some drinks, to lounges, to places where you go to dance the night away. The Public House is a place to come and have great food and drinks, while being able to have a conversation with your friends or family, people visiting, or our amazing regulars. And sports! You’ll always find a game on one of our TV’s, unless it’s a Sunday night in the summer when we show Game of Thrones. We also shut it down at midnight. There are plenty of places to continue the party, but it ain’t at our place.

Why did Public House relocate to the plaza in Sayulita?

We’ve been wanting to expand for a few years now and the opportunity arose. We couldn’t say no.

What do you like about this new location?

What’s not to like? It’s nice to be in the epicenter of Sayulita night life. We’ve got great neighbors and have been welcomed with nothing but smiles and buena onda (good vibes).

You did quite a bit of remodeling before moving into the new location. Will you tell me about that?

People at the bar at Sayulita Public HouseThe space had great bones, but obviously we wanted to put our touch on it and give it that pub feel. The biggest accomplishment was finishing the outside of the building to cover the brick that was exposed for years. It will be painted eventually, and hopefully it’ll be something all of Sayulita’s visitors will want to take a photo of. #sayulita

The second floor is still being remodeled. What will this be like when it is complete?

We are waiting to open the second floor when we have the staff and business for it to make sense. There is another bar on the second level that has great views of the plaza. There will obviously be seating for diners, but it will hopefully have more of a bar vibe than a restaurant. There is also a third floor, which will only have seating and TV’s for watching those games I mentioned.

When do you expect it to be open?

Soon. Patience grasshopper.

What is the biggest difference you have noticed with the location change?

Mo cheddar.

Have you made changes to the beer / food menus? If so, what has changed?

We are making changes to the menu as we do after every season. Chad, our chef, has some amazingness up his sleeve – soft pretzels with homemade mustard and beer cheese, and a charcuterie board with made in house salamis are some items to look for.

You’ve recently made the switch to environmentally friendly to-go containers. I’d love to hear more about this.

We’ve been using environmentally friendly containers for years now. Nothing new for us, but because of the attention it’s getting – hopefully others will follow in suit.
