Kin Performance SayulitaOmar Garcia moved to San Pancho, just a short distance from Sayulita, six years ago. Originally from Guadalajara, he was drawn to the tranquility of the area and the diverse lifestyle of the people who live here. A performer of various sorts, he opened his business, Kin Performance, an artistic company that puts on performances and shows, in 2009.

How did you come up with the name Kin Performance?

KIN is a Mayan word, which means day. The Mayan Kin is well known, a kind of Mayan horoscope. But, we chose it just for the sound of it and its original meaning.

What types of performances do you do in Sayulita?

In Sayulita, we mostly perform Fire Dance with African Drums or Brazilian/Samba sounds. We often work during the welcome cocktail at weddings. We propose a performance, more like a setting, that we call white. It is a performance that shines for its purity, neutrality, and elegance. There are characters on stilts, artists in different circus dynamics, and a fabric aerial acrobatic show with the fine sounds of the harp.

How did you get involved with performing?

I’ve been surrounded by different arts since I was a kid. Some of my relatives were musicians, dancers, dedicated to theater, and more. It is a long, long family history! So, several years ago when I was living on the Caribbean coast, I learned to juggle with objects, and combined these new techniques with my dancing abilities. Then we combined our fire dance with live music, and later, with circus arts.

How many performers work for Kin Performance? Will you share a little bit about them?

As we have different kinds of shows and performances, I can count almost 40 artists. These include musicians, dancers, circus artists, aerial performers, acrobats, actors, etc. Some live here, near Sayulita, and some live in the area of Puerto Vallarta. Others are artists from different parts of the country or are foreigners and only stay here just a few months. It’s amazing to have the opportunity to work with such different talents. You can share your art, enjoy the work, and get new inspirations. The performers that mostly work with me are Miri, Betito, and Ita, from San Pancho, and Gabi and Miguel Angel from Puerto Vallarta. But, Montse and Juan Carlos often come from Aguascalientes to support big performances. Finally, Caravane is a three-person musician group (also from San Pancho) that provides rhythms and sounds for our shows.

What type of events does Kin Performance perform at in Sayulita?

Weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, conventions, political events, and all different kinds of celebrations.

What do you like about performing in Sayulita?

The fees…. Hahaha. (I’m joking!) I’ll be serious: I like performing, always. It’s not important the specific place or time.

What is your most popular performance?

I think the Fire Dance Show and the Huichol Performance.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you for sharing this time with Kin Performance. I want to suggest you watch some of our videos. I think it’s the best way to know, understand, and enjoy our work.
