With the humidity levels and weather changing in Sayulita, I could feel a change in my skin even after my daily moisturizing routine. I booked an appointment with Jessica at her new place, 7Spa, for a Deluxe Facial. It was one of the best treatments I’ve ever had.

7-spa in sayulitaThe Deluxe Facial includes facial cupping, a bentonite clay masque, and a spirulina enzyme masque (curtesy of Nutrify for Life in Sayulita) that left my skin feeling soft, rejuvenated, and looked incredibly clear. My jawline looked more distinct and I felt a great amount of sinus pressure relief. Jessica has been working as a massage therapist since 2010 and has done body and facial cupping since 2014. Facial cupping has been recently trending in all the top spas and is a go-to for many celebrities in Hollywood. When I read about facial cupping I was immediately intrigued.

Facial cupping uses specialized glass cups on the face, neck, and chest to lift and firm muscle and skin tissue, while also increasing localized blood and lymph flow. Benefits also include reducing jaw pain, relieves sinus pressure and tension headaches as it helps relieve tension in the facial muscles. Jessica further explained to me the facial cupping process:

It is unique because it not only works at a superficial level to unclog pores and gently exfoliate the skin, but it also works at a deeper level, detoxing the tissues that lie underneath the surface of the skin”.

My skincare routine has drastically changed since I moved to Sayulita from California in 2015. I asked Jessica for some of her go-to tips for pre and post facial treatments. Below are her top five recommendations:

  1. Try to avoid as much sun exposure as possible before and after facial treatments
  2. Use a gentle cleanser the day before and after your facial to avoid irritating the skin
  3. Avoid abrasive exfoliants
  4. Always stay hydrated
  5. Always use some type of sun protection on your face

When asking Jessica for advice on keeping your skin clean and clear during the humid Sayulita Summer days, she mentioned, “As with pretty much anything health related, it all starts in the gut, so healthy skin starts with clean eating and plenty of water.”

Jessica has plenty of other unique and specialized treatments, such as body cupping which helps detoxify the body and cleanse the skin. Other popular treatments include body wraps and full body scrubs. The Mexican Chocolate massage treatment uses local cacao ingredients and massage oils and is something I’m definitely looking forward to trying in the future.

If you find yourself in Sayulita for the rest of this month, be sure to hurry and book your appointment with Jessica to take advantage of her June Facial Specials. A Basic Facial includes facial cupping and a free masque of your choice for the price of $700 pesos or $35 USD. The deluxe facial includes facial cupping and both masques, priced at $900 pesos or $45 USD.
