From June, 17th through June, 21st, thirteen 9th grade Costa Verde students went to Tapalpa, Jalisco, for their annual graduation trip. Each year, the graduating class organizes their own trip and works all year long to raise money for it. It is something they look forward to and is a wonderful time to bond with classmates and celebrate and honor years of friendship. In an effort to raise funds for the trip, the 9th grade class made a mirror to auction off to the highest bidder. Erika Ramirez Gamero (sub director of CVIS) and the 9th grade students share more about this project.

How did the idea of creating a mirror to raise funds for the graduation trip come about?

The students had a great time creating a piece for the Annual Costa Verde Fundraiser (Bollywood this year) and so they had the idea to create some artwork to auction off to raise funds for their trip and graduation. They had the idea to put some Mexican traditions in a piece of art, and there is nothing better than our typical Loteria.

How many students worked on the mirror?

Thirteen students all collaborated.

Would you describe this mirror?

This is a unique piece of art created with hope and love based on the traditional Mexican game - Loteria. Mirror Size: 197 x 94.

How would you describe the process of making the mirror?

Well, it was hard to achieve since all of us (students) had to ask teachers for time to complete it, do it during art lessons, or do it after school. First, we painted the frame, then we decided the pieces of loteria we would use. That's when the magic started. With the guidance and experience of Miss Dalia, our art teacher, it was easy to complete.

How exactly will the funds raised by this mirror be used?

The money will be wisely spent on our special graduation ceremony since we used our graduation funds and our parents already made a great effort to pay for our end of the year school trip.

What is the process for bidding on this mirror?

We will post photos and hold an "auction" on the Costa Verde Facebook Page from Friday, June 23 through Thursday, June 29th. The opening bid is $100 USD or 1,800 pesos. You can bid on the item by commenting on the photo. The highest bidder wins!
