Especial nota a personas que hablan español. Me llevó a cabo esta entrevista en Inglés y traducido al español que yo mismo. Como la mayoría de ustedes saben, mi español es decente, pero no es perfecto. Mis disculpas por inexactitudes o errores en la traducción al español Rubén. Ian Hodge

3. Year arriving to Sayulita?  I was born in Sayulita but left for the USA in 1986.  I returned to Sayulita in 2005.

5.  Completed education?  I went to high school in La Cruz but did not graduate.

6.  Married/Family? I am married to my wife Monica and have two children.  Ruben Jr 11 years and America 5 years.

Employment/Occupation history:  From high school, I left for the USA (Los Angeles) in 1986 and worked in restaurants as a dishwasher, busboy, and line cook.  I finally earned the position as an award-winning chef for Marmalade Café where I worked until 2005.  I then returned to my hometown of Sayulita where I worked with my brother Manual to completely remodel and renovate the Calypso restaurant above the Sayulita Plaza.  It has been very successful ever since.
7. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: De la escuela en La Cruz, me fui de los EE.UU. (Los Angeles) en 1986 y trabajó en restaurantes como lavaplatos, busboy, y la línea de cocinero. 8. One positive change you have observed Sayulita:  Everyone can benefit from the tourism coming to the area.  These benefits can be in the form of employment, business, or renting out commercial/housing space.

9. One negative change you have observed Sayulita:  Safety.  Sayulita just isn’t as safe as it used to be.

How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years?  Of course, I see more houses and more people in the future.  Probably less green area as well, though I hope they do not cut down all the trees here.  There will even be more opportunities for those who wish to invest and/or work hard.  Not everything will be 100% good, but of course, the growth will not all be bad either.
10.  Cómo imagina Sayulita en 10 años? Por supuesto, veo más casas y más gente en el futuro. Probablemente menos zona verde y también, espero que no talar todos los árboles de aquí. Va a estar más oportunidades para los que deseen invertir y / o trabajo duro. No todo será del 100% bien, pero por supuesto, el crecimiento no todos se mal tampoco.

11.  A recommendation or comment for the people of Sayulita:  Keep our town safe by investing in the safety of citizens.  Pressure the municipality to give us civil police (undercover agents.)  Also, everyone should always remember to be as charming and friendly as possible; don’t forget about this!  And please, let’s keep Sayulita clean, clean, clean!
11.  Alguna recomendación o comentario que quiera hacer a la gente de Sayulita:
 Mantener nuestra pueblo segura invirtiendo en la seguridad de los ciudadanos. Presión de la municipalidad para que nos dé la policía civil. Además, todos debería recordar siempre a ser tan encantador y agradable como sea posible; no se olvide de esta! Y por favor, vamos a mantener Sayulita limpia, limpia, limpia!

12.  Other comments (by interviewer Ian Hodge, SayulitaLife.com):  I spoke with Ruben this morning as he was getting ready to catch a flight back to Los Angeles, CA.  He is moving from Sayulita to go back to the States today to be with his wife and kids.  Ruben told me the lack of an English language and computer-based school curriculum was the main reason for his move.  He really hopes the new Costa Verde School will become a reality and provide his kids the education they would need in order for the family to move back here.  Of course, Ruben will be working closely with his brother Manuel to ensure Calypso continues to maintain its standards of quality and service.  His immediate presence in Sayulita will surely be missed.
12.  Otros comentarios (por entrevistador Ian Hodge de SayulitaLife.com): Hablé esta mañana con Rubén como él se preparaba para tomar un vuelo de regreso a Los Angeles, California. Él está pasando de Sayulita para regresar a los Estados de hoy para estar con su mujer y sus hijos. Rubén me dijo que la falta de un idioma Inglés y en soporte currículo escolar fue la razón principal de su movimiento. Él realmente espera la nueva Escuela de la Costa Verde se convertirá en una realidad y ofrecer sus hijos la educación que se necesita para que la familia para regresar aquí. Por supuesto, Rubén se trabaja en estrecha colaboración con su hermano Manuel para garantizar Calypso sigue manteniendo sus niveles de calidad y servicio. Grupo ProSayulita Fundraiser---March 12, 2008
In one week, on March 12, 2008, Grupo Pro Sayulita will hold its 3rd Annual Fundraising Fiesta at Don Pedro's Las Brisas Events Center.  This will be the time to gather together for fun, food and fundraising. 

The event will begin with a no-host bar and passed hors d'ouvers and time to check out the wonderful items offered at auction.  Sayulita's artists will be featured, including Evelyn Boren, Bonnie Metzgar, Ken Brandon, Gloria Navarro, Janet Bell, Barbara Dahn and Devon Chapman.  Photographers Cynthia Gillespie-Smith and Cap Sparling have donated beautiful works.  Also included will be one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry from Sayulita's craftsmen. There are spa packages, massages, a gym membership, yoga packages, golf opportunities, golf car rental, home stays, dinners and lunches at Sayulita's fine restaurants and much, much more.

Musicians, the Choco Chips, and the student ballet folklorica, public school students from our area, will entertain you. A DJ will play favorites after the auctions are over.

Damien Porter of Don Pedro's is providing a traditional Mexican buffet.

Tickets for a raffle are now being sold in La Hamaca, Los Colores, and by the members of Grupo Pro Sayulita.  Those tickets are 3 for $250, and there will be three prizes.  The lucky winners will take home an Evelyn Boren painting, or beautiful embroidered Guatamalan Cushions, or a lapiz and labradorite necklace.  Go to Grupo Pro Sayulita's new website www.prosayulita.org to see these prizes.  You need not be present to win this raffle.
