Description

Casa Buque in Sayulita is a rare kind of hideaway — a private, two-bedroom retreat built directly into the rock above the Pacific, where the ocean isn't just a view but a constant, soothing presence. The name means "Ship House," inspired by the way the home rises from its rocky perch like a vessel anchored above the sea, and from the moment you arrive, it's easy to understand why.

This is the private lower-level residence of a two-home property, entirely separate from the upstairs Tejonera residence, which is rented independently. Casa Buque has its own entrance, its own terrace, and its own exclusive infinity pool, so nothing here is shared. Perched above a secluded cove used by only a handful of neighboring homes, the beach below feels almost like your own — just steps away and ideal for swimming, wading, snorkeling, or simply floating in the calm water while the jungle rises green behind you and the open Pacific stretches out in front. Beach chairs are provided for guests who'd rather stay on the sand.

Inside, two bedrooms and two bathrooms open onto private balconies, each room cooled by air conditioning for restful nights spent falling asleep to the sound of waves. The spacious main terrace is where most days unfold — long breakfasts, sunset drinks, or simply stretched out in the sun with the ocean and jungle views filling the horizon. The kitchen comes fully equipped with everything needed for easy at-home meals, including a stovetop, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, and complimentary coffee to start the morning right. Guests who'd rather not cook can arrange for the on-site housekeeper to prepare meals with advance notice; groceries are billed separately, and gratuity is always appreciated.

Casa Buque sits in south Sayulita, tucked inside a private, gated community with its own parking, just past Playa de los Muertos and roughly a ten-minute walk from the heart of town — close enough for easy access, far enough to feel wonderfully removed from it. Guests who'd rather skip the walk can rent a golf cart or car for the short trip in and out.

This is still very much our family vacation home, one the owners return to themselves between guest stays, and that care shows in every detail, from the well-kept pool to the quiet attention paid to comfort and cleanliness. Whether spent swimming in the cove, floating in the infinity pool, or simply watching the waves from the terrace, time at Casa Buque moves at its own unhurried pace.

Fabulous trip!

We have been to Casa Buque 3 years in a row now, and looking forward to 2027! In the 20+ years we've been coming to the region this is the first place that we have gone back to over and over. It's the perfect size for 2-4 people. It is super private and very peaceful. Having a virtually private beach just down the stairs and being perched on the rocks above the ocean, couldn't be more idyllic. Meche, the housekeeper and cook, is so lovely, we enjoy her cooking each year (ask for fresh tortillas!)

Better than Perfect!

This was our second stay at Casa Tejonera and it felt like coming home to be there again. The apartment, like before, was immaculate with everything you need to cook if you want to, relax, and enjoy the peace and beautiful view. The owner has amazing taste in art and we love the paintings, folk art and details in the construction of the home that add to the tranquility and charm. The king size bed is so comfortable and with the sound of the surf all night long we slept like babies. We love the staff- Eric, the caretaker, was quick to replenish our water jug, and attend to any need we had. We enjoyed two meals prepared by his wife and his mother. They are all such nice people.
We hope to be back in 2027 and thank the owner for all the details that help us feel so at home.

Lovely Casa Buque

My husband and I stayed in the upstairs unit, Casa Tejonera last February and loved the area so much we decided to come back with my daughter and her boyfriend to rent the downstairs unit, Casa Buque which was perfect. Two private bedrooms with bathrooms flank the living room which opens on to a deck with an in-ground pool. A large table with chairs and an umbrella make outdoor eating a breeze. The pool is perfect for a quick dip and the deck extends to accommodate lounge chairs and umbrellas. The ocean view is amazing. We loved having our coffee on the deck watching the sun come up in the mornings and listening to the ocean waves as we drifted off to sleep at night. The kitchen is well stocked if you want to stay in to cook. We had an asada on the grill and numerous margaritas. Your private beach is a few steps away and very swimmable. We rented a golf cart to make the quick trip into the town center. Meche and Erik, the housekeepers were so lovely and helpful. Leticia the owner was very responsive to any questions we had. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation. We can’t wait to go back!

The Magic

It took me 7 years to return , life got in the way. I discovered Casa Buque for my 60th birthday when my mom , sister and 2 best friends joined me.
I had a fantasy that one day I would return with my husband to show him the magic. For my 67th birthday we did along with my sister. My fantasy came true.
Rosey’s meal was one of the best we had . I have never tasted flan like that.
Hopefully we will return in less than 7 years.

Loved every minute

Best Location in Sayulita for a True Vacation

I have stayed at Casa Buque several times… with my husband, with friends, with family. I have also stayed here all by myself & enjoyed a tranquility that can only be described as heaven sent. Indeed, this place stays in my soul when I am not here. I can close my eyes & transport myself to this lovely residence perched on a bluff amongst the wild landscape of South Sayulita.

Set behind tall gates in an exclusive enclave of just a few homes, Casa Buque is exquisitely private & totally safe. A full house with living room, kitchen, bedroom suites on either side, a huge outdoor patio with a pool & wood deck to absorb an unobstructed 180 degree view beyond! WOW! I can just happily sit out here all day long. And at night the dark purple skies explode with stars & constellations. The meteor showers last October were awe inspiring. Occasionally I am lucky enough to witness a lightning storm in the distance. Mother Nature on display in her full glory. Plus there’s a short stairway right to a nice clean little beach.

The owners are gracious. Communication with them is reliable & easy. The staff here is absolutely wonderful; the place is clean & everything works (incl WiFi & air conditioning). They are also available to cook breakfast, siesta or dinner for you which is truly the best deal in town. Fresh fruit margaritas upon request. Super easy to walk to town. Or rent an electric powered golf cart & explore at leisure. I could go on & on about this place. But you will need to have this wonderful experience yourself to fully appreciate the special gem that is Casa Buque!

Incredible Stay

Another delightful stay at your gracious Casa Buque. We look forward to our return. We had a very delicious dinner on the veranda. It was exquisite. Now while having coffee… eyes on the horizon, listening to the waves break… we are already filling with nostalgia.

Absolutely Amazing Experience

First let me tell you that you have a beautiful house. Rebecca and I had one of our most memorable vacations together in 28 years! Gracias!

Meche, what can we say - she was great. She was an absolutely amazing cook and made us feel very at home. She and Erics wife even made us an amazing anniversary dinner on the porch with the fish that we caught earlier in the day.

Eric was also a great host. Anything we had a question about he was there to help us and give us any advice. We truly appreciated everything that all of them did for us and the hospitality that they showed. We left them with a very good tip that they all deserved!

Hopefully they gave us good reviews as guests at your property? We will be back, next time with the family and we will rent the entire house for all 6 of us. Again, thank you very much and we look forward to our next vacation at your beautiful house!
