Great Location with a Few Things to Keep in Mind

We stayed at Casa Destino for one week this August for a work-from-home trip. We were immediately drawn to Casa Destino’s vibrant colors, local feel, spacious layout, great location, and large pool.

We are frequent travelers and regularly work remotely from Central & South America, so we’re very accustomed to staying in vacation rentals and adapting to different homes and environments. With that in mind, there were a few things during our stay that caused some discomfort that I wish we had known about before booking. Given the price point, for our next trip we’ll likely choose one of the more updated and modern homes in Sayulita, particularly when it comes to the bathrooms, cleanliness, and overall comfort.

Pros:
I would definitely recommend staying on this side of Sayulita for the proximity to Muertos Beach and the town center. We really enjoyed the large pool, and the kitchen was great. The beds and couches were also very comfortable. The downstairs bathroom had consistently hot water, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly for working from home. We also felt very safe throughout our stay.

Cons:
The downstairs portion of the home was great, but we did run into a few issues upstairs. The water pressure upstairs was quite low. It’s also difficult to tell from the photos, but the upstairs bathroom is open to the outdoors. This made the bathroom feel quite muggy and uncomfortable and allowed bugs, dirt, and other outdoor debris to accumulate on the floor. Because of this and the low pressure, I ended up using the downstairs bathroom and shower for the remainder of our stay. One other thing to note is that the large chamber doors use sliding metal locks, which were quite loud and echoed throughout the house.

Other notes:
We also had a frightening encounter with the neighbor’s dog on arrival. We had my service dog with us and there is no fencing or barrier between the two houses or the pool/patio outside so it was an initial safety concern. We let the property management team know, and after about two days they were able to contact the neighbors, who kept the dog inside for the rest of our visit. We also did end up getting a cart; I’d recommend one of the larger ones for navigating the hill.

Casa Destino has a lot going for it — especially the location, pool, spaciousness, and character of the home. I think having a little more detail in the listing about the open-air upstairs bathroom and some of the home’s unique features would help guests set expectations before booking.

I was surprised to read the concerns about cleanliness, as none were mentioned during the stay and our longtime housekeeping team’s offer to provide routine cleaning was declined. No photos documenting these concerns were provided afterward either. Had we known, we would have been happy to address anything immediately. :(

Casa Destino is my private home, cared for by the same team for 15 years, and we’re fortunate to welcome many guests who return year after year. It is a traditional Sayulita home with open-air elements and character rather than a newly constructed modern villa. Some of the comments regarding humidity, insects, hills, and golf carts are also part of the tropical Sayulita experience.

We were sorry the neighbor’s very friendly Labrador caused concern and, once notified, we asked our neighbors to keep a closer eye on him.

I’m sorry Casa Destino wasn’t the right fit for these guests. I only wish the concerns had been shared during their stay so we could have had the opportunity to address them. Thanks for staying nonetheless! -Brian

Beautiful quiet Casa

We had a great experience staying in this beautiful Casa. The staff are very helpful, the pool is amazing for daily swims. The birds were fascinating to watch & listen to. The kitchen is great & well equipped , beds are comfy & quiet sleeps Everything was super! Would go back on a heart beat! Thank you for making our stay memorable!! 🏖️🌮🌶️and we walked to the beach everyday!!

Very Comfortable in a Great Location

The house is in a nice quiet location, with nice views. It is also close to town and two different beaches. The pool is fantastic and was much appreciated during our June stay. Inside the house we had everything we needed, such as comfortable beds, cool a/c, and a kitchen stocked with any items we needed to prepare meals.
The grounds are vast and lovely. Everything was well maintained and cared for. We will definitely be back.

Best place we've stayed on the South Side

We loved staying here. The property and the house was beautiful, cozy, well thought out, and very well maintained. It had great energy and we felt right at home immediately. The walk up to the house was a small hill, that was minimal compared to some other places in Sayulita and the beds were all very comfortable. Really easy walk to town and quiet and night. The best of all worlds.
