Surf Cowgirls in Sayulita is a women-focused adventure and lifestyle business created by two Canadian horse girls who fell in love with the magic of this little surf town. What started as a love for horses, the ocean, and Sayulita's laid-back spirit has become a way to share the town with others through women's retreats, horseback riding tours, and horseback riding lessons, all designed around adventure, connection, and the outdoors.

Every experience brings together what the founders love most about life here: horses, surfing, nature, and community. It's a combination you won't find anywhere else, and one that reflects the Surf Cowgirls lifestyle in every ride and retreat.

The horseback riding tours are one of the most memorable ways to explore Sayulita. Guests ride happy, healthy horses through jungle trails and along the beach, taking in the lush landscape that surrounds town from a completely different point of view. For early risers, the Morning Coffee Ride is one of the most popular experiences: coffee in hand, you'll ride through Sayulita as the day wakes up around you. Rides run seven days a week, with both morning and afternoon options.

For those who want to feel more at home in the saddle, Surf Cowgirls also offers horseback riding lessons during the day. Lessons are tailored to beginners and experienced riders alike, kids included, making them a great way to build confidence, improve your skills, or introduce the little ones to horses.

Surf Cowgirls is a game-changer! Where else can you be a horseback rider and a surfer in the same day? The whole vibe is just incredible—so fun, supportive, and empowering. The team is amazing and makes everyone feel like a part of the family. I left feeling so refreshed and confident. P.S. The new shop in town is AWESOME. A must-visit for sure. 10/10 recommend! I can’t recommend Surf Cowgirls enough.

I am completely enamored with this retreat and the two beautiful souls who bring it to life. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely welcomed, seen, supported, and encouraged to be fully myself. Tarah greeted me at midnight after my flight got delayed and set me back 8 hours—she made me feel so welcome despite being in a complete travel haze!

What stood out most were all the thoughtful touches that made the experience feel so personal. From the Human Design reading, to cheering each other on in the surf, to quiet conversations on horseback, by the pool, on the beach, and bouncing around in the side-by-sides in the jungle, every moment felt genuine and connected. It never felt like a retreat being delivered to guests - it felt like being welcomed into a community.

Everything about the experience felt like it was planned with intention and heart. The girls created an atmosphere where women can show up exactly as they are and leave feeling more confident, empowered, and inspired.

I can’t recommend Surf Cowgirls enough. Absolute dream experience. I only wish it were longer. ❤️

If you're thinking about hopping on a plane to Mexico for a retreat, stop thinking and just do it!

I was looking for an experience that would help my soul find rest and my heart find community and this was it! The authenticity of Tara and Kenzie attracts the most amazing, intelligent women and within days a tribe is created, a tribe that you get to surf with, spend time with horses, talk about life, growth, take beach walks, pool swims and lots of laughs with. Its a week I will never forget with women that I hope to stay in touch with. If you're thinking about hopping on a plane to Mexico for a retreat, stop thinking and just do it!

My friend and I booked a ride during our trip to Sayulita through Tarah who was beyond supportive and kind. The duration of the ride was so surreal and special. I had the honour of riding their only mule Taquito, who was so sweet and gentle. The entire experience lasted around 3 hours, definitely the highlight of my trip. Had such an amazing ride with Surf Cowgirls Kenzie and Tarah! Such an amazing experience in sayulita. We were able to take the horses right to a coffee shop in town and grab our favourite drinks before heading out to the beach! Would definitely recommend to anyone with any level of horseback experience. They are able to teach and guide you or you are able to run the horses on the beach!
