Description

Ceramica San Pancho*, just a few minutes north of Sayulita, is an open-air studio that offers pottery classes for beginner to advanced students in wheel and hand-building techniques. Group and private classes are available.

Whether you are a beginner or advanced student, *Ceramica San Pancho* can teach you the skills to create your own unique pieces of pottery. Beginners will learn wheel or hand-building techniques including; traditional ancient coil, pinch, and slab as well as surface decoration using underglaze and cone 6 glazing techniques. Advanced students will build on skills learned in previous courses and begin to combine wheel and hand-building techniques to create thrown and altered forms. Students will broaden their understanding of what is possible with clay, and what is possible within themselves. Parent/child classes are available as well. Classes are taught in 4-week cycles with group classes meeting 2x a week. One-time Sip and Spin class are available as well if you just want to try the wheel for fun with no class commitment. Contact Kelly at Ceramica San Pancho for registration information.

Hand-building ceramics:

Handbuilding is a ceramics technique that allows you to create forms with clay and your hands, without using a throwing wheel. Before ceramicists invented the wheel, hand-building was the only way they could create functional and artistic ceramic forms.

Wheel Ceramics:

In pottery, a potter's wheel is a machine used in the shaping (known as throwing) of round ceramic ware. The wheel may also be used during the process of trimming the excess body from dried ware, and for applying incised decoration or rings of color
