Description

Don Pedro's Restaurant & Bar in Sayulita Mexico was founded in 1994. It sits on the beach under a giant thatched palapa surrounded by panoramic views of ocean and jungle, and offers expertly prepared Mediterranean-style cuisine with a Mexican influence. The restaurant is nestled on Sayulita's golden beach and guests delight in an unforgettable dining experience while surfers ride gentle waves in full view. There is open air, covered seating inside, plus the beach patio and bar, where the view is even better and the dining more enjoyable with your toes in the sand. Be sure to check out Salsa Night, every Monday at 8:00 PM during the season (Oct - June). Come at 7:00 PM for salsa lessons. Thursdays bring Gypsy Flamenco with Latcho and Andrea at 7:00 PM. Don Pedro's has been voted "Best Restaurant" in Sayulita for three years running in the Voter's Choice Best of Sayulita Awards.

The Story of Don Pedro's

In 1992, two cousins, Damien and Nicholas, set off from Los Angeles on a surf and culinary adventure. Making their way south, they stumbled upon a diamond-in-the-rough called Sayulita. With one phone line in town at the Paleteria and hardly any other services, Sayulita was a dusty fishing village that time seemed to have forgotten. Tucked into a jungle-clad bay with a consistent rivermouth break, Sayulita's serene natural beauty and the warm hospitality of the locals impressed the two travelers, so much that they decided to stay. And thus a dream began to crystallize - to build a world-class restaurant on the beach of this little paradise. Like many passionate dreamers, they were laughed at, told it would never work. But true to the old adage "if you build it, they will come", they did... and the people came. Over fifteen years later, they keep coming back.

Giving Back

From the onset of their experience in Sayulita, Damien and Nicholas have always believed in improving the quality of life for the locals who call this place home. They financed the restoration of the malecon and fortification of the beach area. They have repeatedly contributed to the development of the growing town's sewer system and financed upgrades to the local power grid. Most importantly, Don Pedro's has employed at least one member of every founding family of the village. Don Pedro's continues to be the largest employer in Sayulita.

Nicholas Parrillo
Executive Chef /Co-owner

Chef Parrillo received formal training at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and matriculated at the Culinary Institute of America. He further honed his skills in fine establishments such as Rex IL Ristorante of Los Angeles, Prego's of Beverly Hills, Rebecca's of Venice Beach and I Cugini of Santa Monica. For Chef Parrillo, Don Pedro's is a dream come true - a culinary laboratory where the freshest local ingredients and Mexican flavors meet classical Mediterranean and cutting-edge Californian techniques to create a distinctly unique dining experience. Chef Parrillo, his wife and two children live on a ranch just outside Sayulita where he grows many of his special organic ingredients.

Damien Porter
Executive Director/Co-owner

Upon graduating UC Berkeley in 1992, Damien set off on a journey to ride the ultimate wave. What started as an "Endless Summer" surf safari turned into a visionary enterprise in a foreign land. Throughout his extensive global travels, Damien was always drawn to the local cultures that embraced him. In Sayulita, the genuine hospitality of the village convinced him of the tremendous potential for a world-class gourmet experience just steps away from the surf. Damien lives in Sayulita where he oversees several businesses and still surfs any chance he gets. Damien, Nicholas and the Don Pedro's family welcome you to enjoy this little paradise on earth.

Great food, service, atmosphere, and location.
Our group of 8 adults dined here once for lunch and twice for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was great. Several of us had steak for dinner and were pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the beef. Shrimp dishes were excellent as well. All at a reasonable price.

Perfect dinner for first night of our trip
We had a wonderful meal the first night we arrived in Puerto Vallarta. We had a group of 7: 5 adults and 2 teenagers. We ordered 2 pizzas, 2 fresh catch of the day, a tuna roll, and a shrimp chile rellano. Not sure about the other meal someone got. Great margaritas and a beautiful place to watch the sunset. Service was great and food was tasty.

Great views and very good food.
Our group of 8 have been making the rounds to some of the finer dining and more expensive restaurants. Food here was very good but with little flair. At this price range we felt there could have been more inspirational ingredients with the steaks and seafood than grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. Pizza were quit good. Portions are quite generous.

Service was a bit lackluster. Waiter forgot a few drinks and could have sold more had they returned to ask. Whlie deserts took a considerable amount of time to arrive, they were quite good

The Perfect Rehearsal Dinner
When planning our wedding, we were sure to book rehearsal dinner at Don Pedros because of the amazing views, friendly staff, and delicious food and cocktails. In addition, they have plenty of space to accommodate a large dinner party. We booked the private palapa upstairs and it was absolutely beautiful! Nelly and her team did a great job setting up the space and it was the perfect way to spoil our wedding party before the big day. We had originally booked for May 2020 but due to the pandemic shut down, we had to postpone for May 2021 and Nelly was so kind and helpful through the process. Thank you for the amazing memories and we look forward to dinning at Don Pedros again and again!

I love everything about Don Pedro's! The food never disappoints (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and has become my go-to when in Sayulita. I am gluten free and they are always able to accommodate. The service is also excellent! And there is nothing like being right on the beach! I look forward to the day when they can bring Salsa night back!

Safety & Spicy Margs!
I would like to thank Don Pedro's for being our go-to spot during our visit in December. They are taking COVID restrictions and regulations very seriously, and this made us feel so comfortable during these crazy times. We spent several days at their beach area and enjoyed two wonderful dinners, including a fabulous Christmas Eve Dinner. The service and food are amazing, especially the spicy margaritas!
