3. Born in Sayulita? Actually no. I was born in Tocumbo, Michoacan. I came here with my family when I was 11 years old to open La Original Michoacan Paleteria (ice cream store) in 1984.
3. Nació en Sayulita? En realidad no. Yo nací en Tocumbo Michoacán. Yo vine aquí con mi familia a abrir la Paletería La Original Michoacana.
4. Education level: I graduated from the University of Guadalajara in 2007 with a degree in Medical acupuncture. Right now I have a small clinic in Guanajuato where I sometimes practice. I hope to someday have a small practicing studio here in Sayulita.
4. Nivel de educación: me gradué de la Universidad de Guadalajara en el 2007 con el titulo de Médico Acupunturista. Ahora tengo una clínica pequeña en Guanajuato donde practico algunas veces. Espero algún día tener un consultorio donde practicar aquí en Sayulita.
5. Family history & information? My mother and father (David Mendoza and Olivia Govea) arrived here in Sayulita in 1984 and opened the ice cream store. Soon after I met my husband Angel Cadena Rodriguez (from Sayulita) and we now have three sons. Juan Ángel (16), Jorge Arturo (15), and Ulises Emmanuel (10)
5. Cual es la historia de su familia? Cuántos son? Mi madre y mi padre (Olivia Govea y David Mendoza) llegaron a Sayulita en 1984 y abrieron la paletería. Pronto conocí a mi esposo Ángel Cadena Rodríguez (de Sayulita) y ahora tenemos tres hijos: Juan Ángel de 16, Jorge Arturo de 15 y Ulises Emmanuel de 10.
6. Employment/business history. My first (and really only) job was working for my father in Sayulita's first ice cream store. Our first location was where the Pajaro de Fuego office is now. Then we moved across the street to Los Arbolitos Hotel. We then moved back to the old location. Now we have two stores, one on the way into town across from the Comex and the other on the plaza next to Leyza Restaurant. We make all of our own popsicles, ice creams and fruit waters.
6. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación. Mi primer (y en realidad único) trabajo fue trabajar para mi papa en la primera paletería de Sayulita. Nuestro primer negocio estaba donde ahora esta la oficina de Pájaro de Fuego. Después nos cambiamos a la calle del Hotel Los Arbolitos. Después nos regresamos a donde estaba el negocio primero. Ahora tenemos dos tiendas, una en la calle de entrada al pueblo enfrente de Comex y la otra en la Plaza a un lado del Restaurante Leyza. Nosotros hacemos nuestras propias paletas, helados y aguas frescas.
7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita? The local people from here view education more importantly now. Before, education was not considered a necessity. Education can make everything better here in Sayulita. Better families, better lifestyles, and a better town as a whole.
7. Algún cambio positivo que haya observado en Sayulita? La gente local ve ahora la educación como más importante. Antes la educación no era considerada una necesidad. La educación puede hacer que todo sea mejor aquí en Sayulita. Mejores familias, mejores estilos de vida y un todo un mejor pueblo.
8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita. All the construction. I liked Sayulita much better when the hills were covered with trees instead of houses. I think the town itself was much prettier 10 years ago when there were less houses, less electric posts/lines, less phone wires, less cars, and less dust.
8. Algún cambio negativo que haya observado en Sayulita? Toda la construcción. Me gustaba Sayulita mucho mas cuando los cerros estaban cubiertos de árboles en lugar de casas. Pienso que el pueblo era mucho mas bonito hace 10 años cuando había menos casas, menos postes de electricidad, menos postes de teléfonos, menos carros y menos polvo.
9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I really do not want to imagine this town in 10 years. I hope it will be alright but I know there will be even more of the things I mentioned before (above). Hopefully the town will organize itself even better and work with the growth. I think Sayulita will be even more of an international town with many languages being spoken on the streets.
9. Cómo imagina Sayulita en 10 años? En realidad no quiero imaginarme el pueblo en 10 años. Espero que todo será bueno pero yo se que habrá todavía mas de lo que ya mencione (anteriormente). Espero que el pueblo este organizado mucho mejor y que trabaje con el crecimiento. Creo que Sayulita será mucho mas que un pueblo internacional con muchos idiomas hablados en las calles.
10 Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? Let's all work together for the common good of Sayulita. We need to prepare our children with a good education because they are the future of our village. Everyone needs to realize what a great place Sayulita is right now. We all need to work together to keep it that way. If we are always concerned about a good future for the town, then I am sure everything will be alright.
10. Alguna recomendación o comentario que quiera hacer a la gente de Sayulita? Vamos a trabajar todos juntos por el bien común de Sayulita. Necesitamos preparar a nuestros hijos con una buena educación porque ellos son el futuro de nuestro pueblo. Todos necesitamos entender que Sayulita es un gran lugar. Necesitamos trabajar juntos para mantenerlo de esa manera. Si nos preocupamos por un buen futuro para el pueblo, entonces estoy segura que todo estará bien.
