Today starts the official Semana Santa Holiday season, where it seems like everyone in Mexico heads to the coastal areas with their families to enjoy the sand, sun, fun and waves. Crowds will really start to roll into town this Wednesday and Thursday with max/over-capacity kicking in by next Friday and lasting through the weekend and into next week. A few personal tips include: try not to drive if it can be helped, keep your house/gates locked up to protect against out-of-town intruders, stock up on groceries/beverages now in order to avoid the crowds, set an example by picking up discarded trash, and above all please try to remain patient and calm while our village hosts all these out-of-town guests looking to enjoy a great Easter Week at the beach. Hoy comienza la Semana Santa de vacaciones oficiales de la temporada donde parece que todo el mundo en Mexico a los jefes de las zonas costeras con sus familias para disfrutar de la arena, sol, diversión y las olas. Multitudes realmente comenzar a rodar en la ciudad este miércoles y el jueves con un máximo / exceso de capacidad por patear en el próximo viernes y duradera a través del fin de semana y en la próxima semana. On Tuesday evening several streets in Sayulita were treated to a wash and brush up from the road sweeping machine. This was in preparation for the Wednesday afternoon visit by dignitaries from Bahia Banderos who came to inspect Sayulita's new, and completed boulevard. Sayulita residents, anxious to see the new road open to traffic, question why the new road that appears to be finished is not yet open and why the side roads have not been repaired. The answer is that the road bed needs the time to settle and harden. The new Sayulita boulevard is not scheduled to open until at least April 11th . In addition, more road improvements are scheduled, one block of Calles Playa Azul and Miguel Rodgriez Sanches (pictured) will soon also be paved. Street Update
El martes por la tarde varias calles fueron agasajados con un cepillo de lavar y hasta de las pocas veces visto barrido máquina. Esto era en preparación para el miércoles por la tarde visita de dignatarios de Bahía Banderos que vino a inspeccionar el nuevo bulevar Sayulita. Los residentes estaban comenzando a preguntarse por qué la nueva carretera parece ser terminado, pero no abierta y por qué los caminos secundarios no ha sido reparado. On your mark...get set...go! On April 11th, 2009 it is time to break out those running shoes, take the horses out of the stable, rev up the quads, and fire up your dirt bike! The First Annual Sayulita Grand Prix will kick off its inaugural event and join the list of multiple sporting events which take place on an annual basis in Sayulita.
Anyone can enter and everyone is welcome to attend and participate. There will be fun for all ages, including a kids fun ride and a post event party at the Bull Ring.
Sayulita Grand Prix will consist of 4 separate events with a total purse of $40,000 pesos! Each event will have both a female and male winner with a purse of $5000 pesos each!
The events will include a 7km river and beach run, a 4 km horse race along the river, 5 motocross laps along the river, and 10 quad runner laps along the river.
The following is a schedule of events:
8:00 AM- PARADE LAP
9: OO AM- 7KM RIO Y PLAYA RUN, $200 PESO REGISRATION
10:00 AM- KIDS FUN RIDE, FREE!
11:30 AM 4KM COWBOY/GIRL HORSE RACE $400 PESO REGISTRATION FEE
1:00 PM - 2 WHEELS MOTOCROSS RACE $400 PESO REGISTRATION FEE (5LAPS)
2:30 PM -SUPER MOTO QUAD RACE!! $400 PESO REGISTRATION FEE (10 LAPS)
4:00 PM - FIESTA AT THE BULLRING
A fun information and registration party will be held on the beach in front of Don Pedro's restaurant on Saturday April 4, 2009, between 9am and 5pm.
Registration can also be done anytime prior to the event at Don Pedro's or Tropical House Restaurants.

En sus marcas, listos... fuera! El 11 de abril de 2009 es tiempo de limpiar los zapatos para correr, sacar los caballos del establo, revisar las cuatrimotos y arreglar tu vieja bicicleta! El Primer Gran Prix Anual de Sayulita tendrá su primer evento inaugural para unirse a la lista de múltiples eventos deportivos que se llevan a cabo anualmente en el pueblo.
Cualquier persona puede participar y todos son bienvenidos a participar y ser testigos de este gran evento. Habrá diversión para todas las edades, incluyendo una divertida carrera para chicos y una fiesta en el corral de toros del pueblo.
El Gran Prix de Sayulita consistirá de 4 carreras separadas, con una bolsa total de $40,000.00! cada evento tendrá una ganadora y un ganador con un premio de $5,000.00 cada uno!
El evento incluye una carrera de 7 km en el río y en la playa, una carrera para caballos de 4 km en el río, motocross de 5 vueltas a lo largo del río y otra carrera de 10 vueltas en el río para cuatrimotos.

2. Birthdate/age: August 5th, 1978. I am 30 years old.

3. Born in Sayulita? No, I was born in London, Ontario, Canada. I moved to La Cruz 3 years ago. I came to Sayulita to do Yoga and loved the town.
3. Nació en Sayulita? No, naci en London, Ontario, Canada. Me mude a La Cruz hace 3 anos. Venia a Sayulita a hacer Yoga y me encanto el pueblo.
4. Education level: I studied at an Art high school, then went to University of Toronto where I received a double major in philosophy and art history.
4. Nivel de educación: Estudie en una preparatoria de artes, luego fui a la Universidad de Toronto donde estudie una dobe licenciatura en filosofía y historia de arte.
5. Family history & information? My family is Portuguese. My parents immigrated to Canada in the 1970's. My first language is Portuguese. I live with my boyfriend in Sayulita, who I met in La Cruz where he is from and where his family is from. I spend a lot of time in both Sayulita and La Cruz.
5. Vive con su familia? Cuántos son? Mi familia es Portuguesa. Mis papas inmigraron a Canadá en los 70s. Mi primer idioma es Portugués. Vivo con mi novio en Sayulita quien es de La Cruz donde lo conocí y toda su familia es de La Cruz. Paso mucho tiempo entre Sayulita y La Cruz.
6. What is your favorite meal to eat or prepare in Sayulita? On my day off I like to go fishing with my boyfriend, we grill up whatever it is we caught that day and prepare it with a little lime and salt and eat it right there at the beach. One time we even caught octopus. I like all fresh seafood.
6. Cual es tu plato favorito de comer o preparer en Sayulita? Durante mis días libres, me gusta ir a pescar con mi novio y luego asamos lo que pescamos ese dia y lo preparamos con un poco de sal y limón y lo comemos ahí en la playa. Una vez pescamos un pulpo. Me gustan todos los mariscos frescos.
7. Employment/business history. While I was in University I did a lot of bartending. I also helped start a restaurant in Toronto called La Petite Castor. Here in Mexico I started baking pies and I've now been 2 seasons here at Sandrita's bakery in the Sayulita book store.
7. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: Mientras estudiaba en la Universidad, trabajaba como cantinera en los bares. Ahora tengo mi propio restaurante en Toronto que se llama La Petite Castor y lo dejo con un gerente y eso me permite venir a Mexico por 8 meses del ano. Aquí en México empecé a hornear pays y tengo 2 temporadas con Sandrita's bakery aquí en la librería.
8. What do you like best about Sayulita? I like the energy Sayulita has and how multicultural and colorful it is. Sayulita is also very clean and the people are positive about making Sayulita a great place to live.
8. Que cosa te gusta mas de Sayulita? Me gusta la energía que tiene Sayulita y que es muy multicultural. Sayulita esta muy limpio y la gente es positiva sobre hacer Sayulita un buen lugar donde vivir.
9. One piece of advice for someone visiting Sayulita for the first time. I'd recommend that visitors step outside the box and really experience the charm of Sayulita and the local people and the culture that Sayulita has. Go walking around town and see the whole community not just around your vacation villa.
9. Algun consejo para una persona que visita Sayulita por primera vez? Recomiendo que los visitantes salgan afuera de lo confortable y que vivan lo que es el encanto de Sayulita y que conozcan la gente local y la cultura que Sayulita tiene. Que vayan caminando por el pueblo y que vean toda la comunidad no solamente lo que esta por su villa.
10 If you could easily change ONE thing in Sayulita, what would it be? I would like people to appreciate what we have locally and not rely on going out of town like to Wal-Mart and big places to buy their supplies and groceries. I'd like to change the amount of traffic in town as well. I think people can come together and carpool or walk to make a difference and cut down on traffic and pollution.
10. Si pudieras cambiar una sola cosa en Sayuilta, que seria? Me gustaría que la gente apreciara lo que tenemos localmente aquí y que no dependan de ir afuera del pueblo e ir a Wal-Mart para comprar su mandado. Me gustaria cambiar la cantidad de trafico que hay en el pueblo. Creo que la gente puede unirse para compartir viajes en carros o ir caminando al centro para reducir el tráfico y la contaminación.
