Check out the articles below for more info, as well as an interview with La Sayulera Genoveva Garza, owner of Chilly Willy's restaurant (home of my favorite scallop ceviche!).
As you're planning your weekend activities, consider joining Sayulita Verde for tree planting on Saturday morning. Meet at the Recycling Center on the Punta de Mita Highway between 8:30 - noon, and bring a round pointed-end shovel if you have one. The planting effort continues each Saturday morning - for details, visit the Sayulita Life Community Calendar.
On Sunday, come out to the main beach and cheer on the Surfers participating in the "SurfOut! Surfathon" to support Costa Verde International School. From 2 - 5:30 PM on Sunday, Surfers from Sayulita, Dana Point, CA and Santa Cruz, CA will paddle out and surf in an international effort to raise money for Sayulita's CVIS. Tranquila Sayulita era un hervidero de actividad esta semana, con los grandes progresos en las calles pavimentadas cerca del campo de béisbol, y una visita y emocionante anuncio de la Presidente Municipal Héctor Paniagua. Los artículos siguientes tienen más información de los dos, y mas una entrevista con La Sayulera Genoveva Garza, duena del restaurante Chilly Willy (la casa de mi favorite ceviche de callo!).
Como están planeando sus actividades de fin de semana, considere unirse con Sayulita Verde para plantar árboles en la mañana del sábado. Se reúnen en el Centro de Reciclaje en la Carretera Punta de Mita, entre las 8:30 am del mediodía. Si tengan una pala de punta, por favor traiganla. El esfuerzo de la plantación continúa cada sábado por la mañana - para más información, visite el Sayulita Life Community Calendar.
El domingo, ven a la playa principal y para dar supporte a los surfistas que participan en la "SurfOut! Surfathon" para beneficiar el Colegio Costa Verde.  This off-season in Sayulita has seen quite a few changes to the village. The finishing touches of cementing the streets surrounding the sports field are being put on right now. The streets being affected are Calle Manuel Rodriguez Sanchez from the main road and bridge, as well as a two block stretch along Calle Playa Azul from the main road to the end of the sports field. These areas are open only to foot traffic and bicycles during the construction.
According to Sergio Rubio, owner of Construcciones Urbana, whose company is in charge of this project and who is also aboard and operating the backhoe, they will be working on finally completing these areas within the next couple of weeks. The type of concrete/cement they are using is not the "cobblestone" you find in the center of town, but the material identical to what was used to surface the main road back in April. Mr. Rubio explains that the material and design provide the area with better drainage and a smoother, even surface.
 When asked about other roads whose reparation began months ago and have since been put on hold on the north end of the village including Calle Miramar, the upper portion of Calle Manuel Rodriguez Sanchez and Calle Manuel Navarrete, Mr. Rubio explained that his company is only in charge of this particular project and he says that other companies are in charge of the other areas and he does not have any details regarding their progress.

Llega a Etapa de Finalizacion
 Esta temporada baja en Sayulita se ha visto algunos cambios en el pueblo. Los toques finales en la pavimentación de las calles alrededor del campo de beisbol están siendo dados en este momento. Las calles pavimentadas son Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez de la calle principal y el puente, así como también dos cuadras del a calle Playa Azul de la calle principal hasta donde termina el campo de Beis Bol. Estas áreas están abiertas solo al tráfico peatonal y de bicicletas durante la construcción.
De acuerdo con Sergio Rubio, dueño de Construcciones Urbana, que esta a cargo de este proyecto y que también esta afuera, operando la excavadora, ellos estarán trabajando en completar estas áreas en el próximo par de semanas. El tipo de concreto/cemento que están usando no es el "empedrado" que se encuentra en el centro del pueblo pero el material es idéntico al que fue usado para recubrir la avenida principal en abril. El Sr. Rubio explica que el material y el diseño fueron preparados para el área con un mejor drenaje y una superficie aun más suave.
 Preguntado acerca de las otras calles en las cuales las preparaciones comenzaron hace varios meses y que han sido paradas en la parte norte del pueblo, incluyendo la calle Miramar, la parte superior de la calle Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez y la calle Manuel Navarrete, el Sr. Rubio nos explico que la compañía a su cargo solo esta comisionada para esa área ya descrita y que el no tiene ningún detalle a cerca de su progreso.

 On Wednesday, September 09, 2009 the President of municipality of Bahia De Banderas, Hector Paniagua arrived in Sayulita and spoke to hundreds of people in the plaza. On hand was the current delegate/mayor Noe Plascencia, an array of community leaders including Rodrigo Peña, students from both the Primary and Secondary schools, and the principal of the Secondary school Armando Galvan Rodriguez.
The main topic was the receipt of $600,000 pesos to build a public high school here in the village of Sayulita. The municipal President stated that they have multiple hectares that will be used as a foundation for the new Sayulita High School. The exact location was not disclosed, but Mr. Paniagua did state that Sayulita was first choice for the new school. Although San Francisco and Lo De Marcos were also possible locations.
 The crowd was visually excited when told about the new project. Current students, teachers, parents, and visitors alike welcomed the news of the project to continue education past the junior high level in Sayulita. Currently the only option for continuing education is the closest high school, which is located 30 minutes from Sayulita in the town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. After this visit, the Municipal President visited the Sayulita Secondary School and spoke to the school community, he promised start right away the construction and paving of the street where the secondary school is located, starting at the Libramiento a Punta de Mita and finishing at the Secondary School which, he assured, would help to build the perimeter road of the school.

El miércoles 9 de septiembre de 2009, el Presidente Municipal de Bahía de Banderas, Héctor Paniagua, llego a Sayulita y hablo a cientos de personas en la plaza. Ahí se encontraban el actual Juez del Pueblo, Noe Placencia, y varios líderes de la comunidad, incluyendo a Rodrigo Peña, estudiantes de la Primaria y la Secundaria, estos últimos acompañados del director de la escuela, profesor Armando Galván Rodríguez.
 El tema principal fue el recibimiento de $600,000.00 pesos para construir una Preparatoria Publica aquí en el pueblo de Sayulita. El agrego que tienen varias hectáreas que serán usadas para la fundación de la Preparatoria de Sayulita. La localización exacta no fue dada a conocer, pero el Presidente Paniagua aclaro que Sayulita era la primera opción para construir la nueva escuela, aunque San Francisco y Lo de Marcos tambien eran opciones.
El publico estaba muy emocionado cuando escucho acerca del nuevo proyecto. Tanto los estudiantes, los maestros, padres de familia como los visitantes recibieron la noticia del proyecto para continuar con la educación después de la secundaria aquí en Sayulita. Actualmente la única opción para continuar con la educación es la preparatoria más cercana que se encuentra a 30 minutos en autobús, y esta en el pueblo de La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
 Después de esta visita, el presidente municipal se dirigió a la secundaria del pueblo, donde habló a la comunidad escolar y prometió comenzar en seguida con la construcción y pavimentación de la calle donde se ubica la secundaria, comenzando en el libramiento a Punta de Mita, para terminar en la escuela, donde también, aseguró, ayudara a construir el camino perimetral de la misma

 This Sunday, September 13th, from 9 am to 3 pm (Nayarit time), the Mexican-registered non-profit the Hope Animal Network will be holding a kitten adoption day outside of the Mega in Bucerias. They are looking to place homeless cats and kittens in homes, but also will be accepting donations of cat food and other supplies, as well as funds to go towards the construction of a main cat house on the Hope Animal Network/Paraiso Felino animal refuge property. And for those out of the area or not able to make it, the association is on PayPal.

Están buscando familias para los gatos abandonados, pero tambien estarán aceptando donaciones de comida para gatos y otros materiales, asi como tambien fondos para ayudar en la construcción de una casa principal en la propiedad del Paraiso Felino. Y para los que se encuentran lejos o que no pueden asistir, se puede hacer donaciones a traves de PayPal.

2. Birthdate/ Age: October 26th, 1967. I am 42 years old.

3. Born in Sayulita? No, I was born in Ixtapa de la Concepción. It is a small town going towards San Blas. When I was only 1 year old my family moved to Sayulita and I grew up here.
3. ¿Nacida en Sayulita? No. Naci en Ixtapa de la concepción. Es un pueblo hacia San Blas. Cuando tenia solo 1 ano mi familia se mudo aquí a Sayulita y crecí aquí.
4. Education level? I studied secondary school in San Pancho. There still was no secondary school in Sayulita back then.
4. Nivel de educación? Estudie la secundaria en San Pancho. Todavía no había una secundaria en Sayulita en aquel tiempo.
5. Family history & information? I met my husband Felipe here in Sayulita and we have 4 children, Luis Adan, Saida, Felipe de Jesus and Itzel.
5. Vive con su familia? Cuántos son? Conocí a mi esposo Felipe aquí en Sayulita y tenemos 4 hijos, Luis Adan, Saida, Felipe de Jesús and Itzel.
6. What is your favorite meal to eat or prepare in Sayulita? I love seafood and enjoy making seafood cocktails here in my restaurant.
6. Cual es tu plato favorito de comer o preparer en Sayulita? Me gustan los mariscos y me gusta hacer cazuelas de mariscos aquí en el restaurante.
 7. Employment/business history? I've worked in almost every restaurant in Sayulita. I started working when I was 12 years old at a restaurant on the beach that was called Cuca. I helped out in the kitchen. Then I worked at another restaurant called Victorina's. I always wanted to have my own restaurant and I opened Chilly Willy about 1 year ago.
7. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación? He trabajado en casi todos los restaurantes de Sayulita. Empecé a trabajar a los 12 anos en un restaurante en la playa que se llamaba Cuca. Ayudaba en la cocina. Luego trabaje en otro restaurante que se llamaba Victorina's. Siempre quise abrir mi propio restaurante y abrí Chilly Willy hace 1 ano.
8. What do you like best about Sayulita? I like everything about Sayulita and what Sayulita has to offer to the people who live here. I love living by the beach.
8. Que cosa te gusta mas de Sayulita? Me gusta todo de Sayulita y lo que Sayulita tiene para ofrecer a los que viven aquí. Me encanta vivir por la playa.
9. One piece of advice for someone visiting Sayulita for the first time? I think everyone should try to learn how to surf since Sayulita is a surf town and it's a great place to learn for beginners especially.
9. Algun consejo para una persona que visita Sayulita por primera vez? Creo que todos deberían de aprender a surfear considerando que Sayulita es un pueblo de surf y es un lugar perfecto para aprender y especialmente para principiantes.
10 If you could easily change ONE thing in Sayulita, what would it be? I think drugs in Sayulita have become a big problem and it's important to have activities and sports for the youth of Sayulita so they have goals and stay away from drugs. I think the drug problem is something important that the town needs to change.
10. Si pudieras cambiar una sola cosa en Sayuilta, que seria? Creo que las drogas en Sayulita ahora es un problema grande y es importante que los jóvenes de Sayulita tengan actividades y deportes y metas para que no se metan con las drogas. El problema con las drogas es algo importante que el pueblo necesita cambiar.
