For those of you who missed our Revolution Day parade this morning, there were half again as many children than last year with even cuter outfits and related apparel. It's so lovely to see the town coming out as a whole to watch our youngest generations march through the cobblestone streets. Viva la Revolucion!
 It appears the government has stepped up to their commitment to replace the dead palms in the median entering Sayulita. The result is spectacular with approximately 30 new palm trees each surrounded by a bed of smaller plants and groundcover. Sayulita is even more beautiful than before!

Para aquellos de ustedes que se perdió nuestra Revolución desfile del Día de esta mañana, hubo un medio nuevo como muchos niños que el año pasado con los equipos aún más adorables y prendas de vestir similares. Es tan lindo ver la ciudad en su conjunto como para ver nuestras generaciones más jóvenes marcha por las calles empedradas. ¡Viva la Revolución!
Parece que el gobierno ha intensificado su compromiso de sustituir la palma de la mano muerta en la mediana de entrar en Sayulita. El resultado es espectacular, con aproximadamente 30 nuevas palmeras rodeadas por un lecho de plantas más pequeñas y los pavimentos. Sayulita es aún más bella que nunca!

 While recently on patrol in Sayulita, Policia Municpal Commandante Zuniga and his partner came across items apparently taken from a home and dumped on the beach on the north end of the village. Some of the items included a big screen TV, a bag containing expensive cameras and 2 round trip tickets from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta.
 The Commandante immediately attempted to locate the owners of the items, including asking both myself and Noe Plasecia, the current mayor, if we had heard of anyone missing these items. When his investigation proved inconclusive he took the items to the State Municipality located in Bucerias and filed a report. For those travelers who are missing these items please contact Mike Rooney. with your names and descriptions of the items.
 The purpose of the Municipality office (pictured above) which is located in Bucerias, two blocks towards the beach off the last highway lateral before the bridge and two blocks on the right hand side of Calle Morelos on the second floor, is to file complaints where property has been stolen or a non-violent crime has been committed. In Sayulita please contact Noe Plasencia whose office (pictured) is located across from the bookstore on the north end of the village if you have a complaint and he will refer it to the proper authority. Aunque recientemente en una patrulla en Sayulita, Policia Municpal Comandante Zúñiga y su compañero se encontró con elementos aparentemente tomada de un hogar y sean objeto de dumping en la playa en el extremo norte de la aldea. Algunos de los temas incluidos un televisor de pantalla grande y una bolsa con cámaras caras y 2 billetes de ida y vuelta desde San Francisco a Puerto Vallarta.
El comandante de inmediato trataron de localizar a los propietarios de los elementos, incluyendo la solicitud tanto yo como Noe Plasecia, el actual alcalde, si hubiéramos oído de nadie que faltan estos elementos. Cuando su investigación no fue concluyente tomó el producto para el Municipio Estado ubicado en Bucerias, y presentó un informe. Para aquellos viajeros que les falten estos elementos por favor póngase en contacto con El Sayulero con sus nombres y descripciones de los artículos.
El objetivo de la oficina del municipio ubicado a dos cuadras hacia la playa de la carretera lateral última antes del puente y dos bloqueos en el lado derecho de la calle Morelos en el segundo piso en Bucerias, es para presentar denuncias cuando la propiedad ha sido robado o no crimen violento se ha cometido. En Sayulita póngase en contacto con Noe Plasencia, cuya oficina está ubicada frente a la librería en el extremo norte de la aldea, si usted tiene una queja y lo remitirá a la autoridad competente.  This 1-2 year-old male poodle is an unfortunate example of ''culture of disposal''. Because they are extremely cute while in the puppy stage, the little white poodles are in big demand here in Mexico. But once they grow up and become ''real dogs'' they are often abandoned and left on the street.
This young dog was brought to Sayulitanimals because he was chasing a female dog in heat and the owner of the dog threatened to kill him if he went into their house again.
Marco, the vet at Sayulitanimals has neutered and shaved him. This great dog is now up for adoption and will make a great addition to any home.

Este raza de perros son muy dulces cuando son cachorros y parecen peluches y por esto son muy populares. Pero cuando crecen y se desarollan en ''perros reales'' los abandonan en la calle.
Este joven llevaron a Sayulitanimals porque estaba atras de una hembra en celo y el dueno de la perra lo amenazo con matar si entra a su casa otra vez. Marco, el veterinario
de Sayulitanimals lo esterilizo y corto su pelo. Ahora esta en adopcion y esperamos mucho que el encuentra un buen hogar donde lo cuiden y respeten.

Thanksgiving always gets me thinking about family, friends, love, and all that is good in my life. There is so much to be thankful for, especially living in lovely Sayulita. Here are a few of the things I'm reflecting on.
I am thankful for the natural beauty that surrounds us, for the ocean and the jungle, the surf and the wildlife. I am thankful for the chance to learn a second language, to know another culture, and to raise my son bilingual. I'm grateful for so many amazing friends, who have so much love in their hearts to share, and who truly make this a home. I'm thankful for the local community that has welcomed us foreigners into their hometown; that have made me feel at home; that know my son by name and treat him like family. I'm thankful for the tourism that puts food on so many of our tables, and for the chance to earn a living planning weddings, surrounded by love. I appreciate all the good that people do to make our community a better place to live and grow up. I cherish my family, far and near. Most of all, I am thankful every day for my incredible husband, who redefines the very essence of love and devotion, and for my beautiful son, who teaches me to love in ways I never imagined. Living in Sayulita affords me the opportunity to spend each day in their glorious presence, and that is the best gift of all.
Of course I can't forget this week's Fall Favorites: great dinners with friends; a gorgeous low-tide Sayulita Beach; and an honest-to-goodness great cheeseburger from Monchis, across from Alas Blancas.

Un tribute a Sayulita, para Día de Gracias
El Día de Gracias siempre me pone a pensar en la familia, amigos, amor, y todo lo que es bueno en mi vida. Hay tanto que agradecer, especialamente en linda Sayulita. Aquí están algunas de las cosas en que estoy reflexionando.
Estoy agradecido por la belleza naturaleza que nos rodea, por el mar y la selva, las olas y la vida silvestre. Estoy agradecido por la oportunidad de aprender un segundo idioma, conocer otra cultura, y para crecer a mi hijo bilingüe. Estoy muy agradecido por mis amigos maravillas, que tienen tanto amor en sus corazones para compartir, y que hacen de este un hogar verdadera. Doy gracias por la comunidad local que nos han recibido los extranjeros en su pueblito natal, que me han hecho sentir bienvenido, que conoce a mi hijo y lo tratan como familia. Estoy agradecido por el turismo que pone la comida en muchos de nuestros mesas, y por la oportunidad de trabajar en bodas, rodeada con amor. Agradezco todo el bien que hace la gente para hacer nuestra comunidad un mejor lugar para vivir y crecer. Aprecio a mi familia, lejos y cerca. Mas que nada, me siento agradecido cada día para mi marido increíble, que redefine la esencia del amor y la devoción, y por mi hijo precioso, que me enseña a amar de una manera que nunca imaginaste. La vida en Sayulita me ofrece la oportunidad de pasar cada día en su presencia gloriosa, y eso es el mejor regalo de todo.
Por supuesto, no puedo olvidarme de mis favoritos de otoño esta semana: cenas lindas con mis amigos; una noche con amigas en PV, y una hamburguesa deliciosa de Monchis, a través de Alas Blancas.

 Surfing is one of the best total body workouts there is, explaining many of the toned bodies displayed on the beach here in Sayulita every day. It requires balance, core stability, muscle strength and endurance, cardiovascular conditioning and flexibility. If you want to have fun, and avoid the washing machine experience, we recommend a fitness program that is both functional and practical. Out of many, here's one:
The following program is an equipment free, 15-40 minute workout using your bodyweight and time tested traditional exercises. It can be done anywhere, at any time, and is designed to have the beginner to intermediate athlete "surf-fit" in just 30 days.  *Do it 3 times a week, *on non-consecutive days, *with an hour of cardio and stretching on the days in-between, and *one day of rest each week. *Perform the exercises in the order below, *with no rest between sets, keeping your heart rate elevated for cardiovascular conditioning. *Perform the circuit 2-6 times, depending on your fitness level and time available. *The first set is a warm-up, done at 30% maximum effort. Put on some good music, have some water handy, and get it done!
Leg Squats (hold the back of chair, edge of table, or door handle) 2 minutes
Burpees (remember these? Great for popping up) 30 seconds
Push-ups (easier from your knees or a table edge) 1 minute
Sky Jumps (squat, touch the floor, jump, reach up, land soft, repeat) 30 sec.
Plank (in push-up position, or with forearms on floor) 1 minute
Mountain Climbers (just like gym class) 30 seconds
Triceps Push-ups (elbows "in" against the side of the body) 30 seconds

Portuguese Man o' War

Look! What's that little blue bubble thing floating in the ocean? Have you seen it before?
Let me introduce you to this little sea-creature whose name is Portuguese Man O' War (Physalia physalis) aka Jellyfish, blue bottle or agua-mala (bad water).
Portuguese Man o' War has a 1-3 inch bubble like jelly body along with a 12-20 inch electric blue whip at the end. Trust me that this is one of the things you should avoid getting in contact with, even if you find it out of the water.
If you are swimming in the ocean and out of nowhere you start with a painful itchy stingy feeling anywhere on your body and maybe with a finger like bump inflammation and redness, you need to get out of the water, warn other people still swimming and seek medical attention immediately.
From the treatments I've read, the Portuguese Man o' War is very resistant to most of them. From my experience of 3 years of practice here in Sayulita, the most effective treatment is a one-way only gauze cleaning with hot salt water, white vinegar and alcohol gel, along with a quick acting dose of a strong non narcotic anti-inflammatory/pain killer, and a betamethasone cream afterwards.
So far I haven't seen an allergic reaction to this jellyfish injury so antihistamines like Benadryl should not be given. The old classic urine therapy might also be effective, but it's kind of gross and you will still need the anti-inflammatory.

Salud en Sayulita: Carabela Portuguesa
Mira! Que es esa pequeña burbuja azul flotando en el mar? La habías visto antes?
Permíteme presentarte a esta criatura marina cuyo nombre es "Carabela Portuguesa" (Physalia physalis) también conocida como aguamala o botella azul.
La Carabela Portuguesa tiene un cuerpo en forma de burbuja de aproximadamente 3 a 7 cm junto con un látigo de color azul eléctrico de aproximadamente 30 a 50 cm de largo. Créeme que esta es una de las cosas con las que debes evitar todo contacto aunque la encuentres afuera del agua.
Si estas nadando en el mar y de la nada comienzas con un intenso dolor y comezón en cualquier parte de tu cuerpo y probablemente con una inflamación y enrojecimiento en forma de dedo o latigazo, sal del agua, avisa a otras personas que estén nadando y busca atención médica inmediatamente.
De los tratamientos que he leído la Carabela Portuguesa es muy resistente a todos ellos y de mi experiencia en 3 años de consulta en Sayulita, el tratamiento más efectivo es la limpieza unidireccional con agua caliente, vinagre blanco y alcohol en gel, junto con una dosis de analgésico antiinflamatorio de rápida acción y una crema de betametasona para después.
Hasta ahora no he visto reacciones alérgicas por la picadura de aguamala, por lo tanto los antihistamínicos como Benadryl no son necesarios y también la clásica terapia de orina puede ser efectiva pero es desagradable y como quiera necesitaras los antiinflamatorios.
