On Saturday, March 12th and Sunday, March 13th, a beach safety training clinic for 28 volunteers and 8 lifeguards was held in Sayulita. The trainers included Adam Finer, an ASI accredited instructor and owner of Surf Mexico in Bucerias, Jonny Seifert, a surfer and trainer from Ireland who is currently living in Bucerias, and Janalyn Yanover, a trainer from the San Diego, CA Lifeguarding Program, who is currently living in Sayulita. They were assisted by surfers from Sayulita, Tom Rupert and Darsie Culbeck, both from the US. The sessions included practical and technical training in Water Rescue Techniques, CPR and Spinal Management. All attendees who completed the two days were presented with a Certificate of Completion.

This course was created as a result of efforts made by Pro Sayulita, Firefighters Crossing Borders, and Proteccion Civil. Over the past four years we have made a concerted effort to make our beaches a safer place to play. Our volunteers will work alongside the lifeguards over Semana Santa to ensure the beach is secure and safe.

Thanks go out to our instructors, Brian Singleton of Firefighters Crossing Borders, Jack Jones and Janice Parker of Pro Sayulita, and of course Proteccion Civil. Thank you Vallarta Adventures for supplying water for the two days and to Cheri and Patrick Hasburgh for arranging the lunches. You helped keep our people hydrated and fed. Final thanks goes out to the community for all your ongoing support.
