Incredible experience exploring the Sayulita seas with Solin & Chilo
The other reviews here nailed it. My 5 hour trip with Solin and Chilo was nothing short of amazing! Comparing them to a few other places listed here on Sayulita Life, I am so glad I went with these guys. The price was completely in-line with market rate for Sayulita, the boat was in great shape, and I felt so comfortable the whole time (although I need to work on my sea legs). I was greeted with cold drinks, freshly made ceviche from a trip they had earlier that same day, and they even allowed me to bring my small dog! I think they liked her more than me, though ;)
I went alone as a single female and felt completely comfortable, safe, respected, and embraced by these amazing men!
These guys obviously really know what they're doing. Solin grew up near Sayulita and has fished since he was a child. It's clear when you're out with him that it's a true passion for him and he loves sharing in that experience with his clients and his family.
They care so much about making sure you have a good time and are able to achieve exactly what YOU want (i.e. if you want to snorkel, see different types of landscapes up the coast, fish for a certain type of fish or from a certain distance, etc. they will make it happen). If you've fished around the world before, you know that captains aren't always this accommodating. These guys are a perfect balance between giving you guidance when needed and also letting you do your thing when you want to. I also really appreciate that they SUSTAINABLY fish. If you aren't going to use all the fish you catch, you shouldn't keep them. I am glad that they encourage this with their clients because that's important to me as well.
No more than 30 seconds after stopping at a spot filled with HUNDREDS of toros dashing about the water (gorgeous to witness their metallic scales shimmering in the water), Chilo hooked a fighter and passed the rod to me. It was a blast attempting to reel that sucker in. Shortly after, he hooked another and then I hooked/reeled in a couple myself. I ended up taking one home with me to cook up for friends and give to my landlords/their staff who don't always get to eat fish. Turns out there is an amazing place (El Pescador) in the plaza you can go to where the owner will cook up whatever you want: sashimi, poke bowls, etc. I brought my filleted fish in around 6 pm and had a lovely meal with friends at 9 pm. Highly recommend (thanks Chilo!).
If it's important to be able to communicate in English, you absolutely don't have to worry with these two, as their English is phenomenal.
We got to know each other beyond just the fishing, too, and I really enjoyed being able to connect personally with these two incredible humans while on the water. They're GOOD, they're genuine, and they know how to fish. I will be back :)
