Location:
Casa Tranquila is located in Sayulita's tranquil North End, only 5 minutes from the North Beach, and right outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Sayulita. This area is a residential neighborhood with a more relaxed, yet lively, environment. While town is conveniently close, it has less traffic and noise.
Everything is easily walkable. The beach is a 5-minute walk, restaurants are 4 minutes, downtown is a 10-minute walk, and popular surf breaks are an 11-minute walk. The terrain is relatively flat; there are no hills to climb.
Sounds:
Sayulita is a heavily canopied area that is brimming with a myriad of jungle birds that seem to compete for sound. Crowing roosters are as ubiquitous as Mexican music, and construction activity is ever-present as development in Sayulita races ahead at high-speed.
--Nighttime noise at Tranquila consists of birdlife rather than nightlife. Sayulita's ubiquitous roosters and chachalacas often call well before dawn. If this type of noise tends to disrupt sleep, earplugs and/or a noise machine can really help out. We also make fans available; together with AC, they provide a good deal of white noise to block sounds overnight.
--Nearby construction. Please see note below.
Privacy and Security:
The entire villa is wholly private to you. The house and gardens are completely enclosed with high walls creating a tropical hideaway, ensuring privacy and security. Secured parking is available during the high season, and safes are available in each bedroom. Please see note about parking during low season below.
Bedrooms:
There are three large bedrooms, all with AC, comfortable king-sized beds, and bathrooms. The master bedroom with a shared bathroom is on a separate level upstairs, together with the kitchen, living area, and ocean-view terrace (main floor). The remaining two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms are on the first floor (ground floor), each with a private entrance from the patio, which allows you to walk directly out onto the pool and garden. If you are traveling with children, and would like to sleep more closely to them, a door connecting these two bedrooms can be unlocked and opened. Also, one of the two king beds can be split into two single beds. In a pinch, a large L-shaped couch in the living area is available to accommodate one adult, and a blow-up bed can be made available. The charge for extra persons is $40 / person / night up to 8 people total. This is mostly intended for families with children, but please ask us!!
Pool Patio and Ocean-View Terrace:
The truly expansive terrace on the main floor has an ocean view. The walk home from the beach is flat, and yet the terrace is a beautiful perch that guarantees ocean-view sunsets every evening, and is also a wonderful place to experience the magic of dawn in Sayulita. The ground level has a patio, a large pool, and a unique tropical garden of exotic trees and plants, like Yuka, Noni, Lichi, Passionflower, various Haliconias, red ginger, cactus, and cooking herbs. The pool gets plenty of sun, there are hammocks to read in and games to play. These outdoor areas provide plenty of cover for shade.
Kitchen and Living Space:
The gourmet kitchen, which opens up onto the terrace, is fully functional with modern appliances and plenty of utensils, etc. to accommodate cooking large meals for friends and family. This includes a Keurig single-use coffee maker (bring your own pods). The dishes are traditional Mexican dinnerware and the glassware is hand-blown. The interior décor of the house is unique, some of it designed and handmade locally. If streaming a movie is great family fun for you, a wall-mounted 65" 2018 model Samsung smart TV will allow you to connect to your Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, and Hulu accounts. It does not have cable nor does it broadcast networks.
Fiber-optic internet:
With so many guests working remotely, we are happy to finally offer reliable and fast internet access. Download- 49 Mbps, Upload- 17 Mbps
Local Office:
You are not on your own if something goes wrong. The property managers have an office on the plaza, and an emergency contact number is posted inside the house. Their reputation for security is unmatched, and whether you need water refills or help with travel arrangements to and from the airport, they are always there for you.
Please use the contact form to get in touch with any questions and to request a reservation. We look forward to welcoming you to Sayulita!
Note about construction noise:
Construction projects are active throughout Sayulita. A lot adjacent to Casa Tranquila has been under construction since January of 2021. As of January 2022, the main structure has been mostly built out and has entered late stage construction.
Until about 10 years ago, the North End of Sayulita bay was mostly free of construction. Its growing popularity and influx of foreign investment into the construction of high-end vacation homes has changed this. Despite this growth, it remains much less crowded and much more quiet than Sayulita's south side and downtown. The walk to the center of Sayulita from the North End is only 10 minutes, and its many advantages include a tranquil environment, location close to the beach, not a lot of traffic, and no general town noise. A really nice essay about the types of noise you can expect in Sayulita, including construction, can be found on Sayulita Life: "Sounds of Sayulita" by David McKeagan.
Notes about Swimming:
Please note that the swimming pool is unsupervised and that there are no safety fences or gates surrounding the pool. Please be very careful, especially with small children.
Notes about electrical outlets:
Electrical outlets at Casa Tranquila are two-prong only (no ground). They are standard 120-volt/60-cycle current, the same as the US and Canada, so no need to bring adapters and converters.
Notes about Low Season:
Sayulita is great any time of year. But, here are a couple things that you should be aware of during low season. Low season is June 1 – October 31.
Parking during low season:
Low season brings heavy rains to Sayulita. This often washes out the unfinished road that accesses Casa Tranquila’s driveway and secured on-site parking located at the back of the property. If you plan to rent a car during low season, you will want to rent a suburban, jeep, or 4-wheel drive to access the parking space. Public street parking is available in front of the house and is easily accessible by average cars any time of year.
Power, water, and internet during low season:
In addition to rain, it is also the hottest time of the year. Heat and thunder storms (spectacular to see) put a heavy burden on the maturing infrastructure of Sayulita. Demands on restricted resources do cause water shortages, power outages, and internet connectivity issues. There are work-arounds, but just be aware of a degree of unpredictability during the hot and rainy season.
It’s for these reasons that low season is discounted. If you have any questions at all, please send them!

Immersion in all aspects of foreign cultures is my passion. My travels have taken me across the world: SE Asia, Indonesia, Central/ South America, Cuba, India and, of course, Mexico. I have travelled throughout Mexico for over 35 years, and finally (finally!!) stumbled upon Sayulita a few years back. After returning many times, I decided to put down roots, and now Casa Tranquila is my most amazing home away from home. I have surfed, skied, and scuba dived across the globe, and of all the places I have traveled, Sayulita is a stand-out. I love it for its cosmopolitan, yet small-town feel, for its tight-knit community that looks out for each other in a way that only a small town can, to say nothing of the extraordinary surfing, fishing, and stunning beaches. As someone who engages with life on as many levels as possible, this town keeps me coming back. Sayulita is not a place, it’s a way of life. I welcome you to also make Casa Tranquila your home away from home! Live life to the fullest. We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time. Enjoy!
