3. Born in Sayulita? Yes. Actually I was born in the hospital in La Penita, but was back here in Sayulita within a matter of hours.

4. Education level: I went to elementary school (premeria) here in Sayulita. High school (secondaria) was in San Pancho because there was not a high school here in Sayulita. I went to preparatoria in La Cruz de Huanacastle. After graduation from the preparatoria , I enrolled in the University of Guadalajara in Puerto Vallarta. I went to college from 2000-2005 where I graduated with a degree in Construction Administration and Quality Control. (Administration de Obra y Control de Calidad)
4. Nivel de educación: Fui a la primaria aquí en Sayulita. Fui a la secundaria en San Pancho porque no había una secundaria aquí en Sayulita. Luego fui a la preparatoria en La Cruz de Huanacastle, y después de graduarme de la preparatoria, me matricule en la Universidad de Guadalajara en Puerto Vallarta. Fui a la Universidad de 2000 a 2005 cuando me gradué fui licenciado en Administración de Obra, y Control De Calidad.
5. Family history & information? My grandfather was born here in Sayulita after my great grandparents arrived sometime during the Revolucion to work on the giant hacienda here known as Hacienda Las Penas. My father worked on construction sites here in Sayulita and my mother was a housewife. She also owns/runs a small Mexican street-restaurant here in Sayulita. I currently live with my wife Fabiola, 22 (from Vera Cruz) and our daughter, Fatima who is almost 3.
5. Vive con su familia? Cuántos son? Mi abuelo nació aquí en Sayulita después que mis bisabuelos llegaran durante la revolución para trabajar para la gran hacienda conocida aquí como Hacienda Las Penas. Mi padre trabajaba en las obras de construcciones aquí en Sayulita y mi madre era ama de casa. También maneja y es dueña de un restaurante mexicano que esta en una calle aquí en Sayulita. Ahorita vivo con mi esposa Fabiola, 22 (de Vera Cruz) y con nuestra hija, Fátima quien casi cumple 3 anos.
6. Employment/business history. My first job at the age of 14 was in Villa Amor. I started out in the restaurant washing dishes but soon worked my way up to cook, waiter, and finally working in the front office. I worked at Villa Amor for about 3 years. During college, I worked for the government in Valle de Banderas in the public planning department. After graduation from college, I worked for J&C Construction Company. Now I have branched out on my own and started a design company with a few friends. We call it DARQCO (Deseno Arquitectonico y Construcion) I have been working on my own now for about 2.5 years.
6. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: Mi primer trabajo cuando tenía 14 anos fue en Villa Amor. Empecé ahí lavando los trastes en el restaurante pero pronto después seguía adelante trabajando como cocinero, mesero, y por fin trabajando en la oficina en frente. Trabaje en Villa Amor por 3 anos. Durante la Universidad, trabaje para el Gobierno en Valle de Banderas en el departamento de planificaciones públicas. Después de graduarme de la Universidad, trabaje para J&C Construction Company. Ahora he empezado a trabajar por cuenta propia, iniciando una compañía de diseño con unos amigos. Se llama DARQCO (Diseño Arquitectónico y Construcción). He estado trabajando por mi propia cuenta por como 2.5 anos.
7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita? Well, I would have to say that it is the architecture you see around the village. Many of the home design ideas are fresh, modern, and individual. The architecture here in Sayulita is different than in most towns in Mexico. I like how many of the builders/owners respect nature and the environment when building their homes.
7. Algún cambio positivo que haya observado en Sayulita? Bueno, yo diría que es la arquitectura que puedes ver por el pueblo. Muchas ideas para los diseños de casas son nuevas, modernas, y únicas. La arquitectura aquí en Sayulita es diferente que en la mayoría de otros pueblos en México. Me gusta como muchos constructores/dueños tengan respeto para la naturaleza y la fauna cuando construyen sus casas.
8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita. The village is growing too quickly. Though there are many great house designs here, there are also more people building without any respect to the natural environment. They are just building as much and as fast (and cheap) as possible. This is not really in the best interest of Sayulita for the long run.
8. Algún cambio negativo que haya observado en Sayulita? El pueblo esta creciendo demasiado rápido. Aunque hay muchos buenos diseños de casas aquí, también hay mucha gente construyendo sin respetar el medio ambiente. Solo construyen lo mas rápido, (y lo mas barato) posible. Esto no tiene el mejor interés de Sayulita a largo plazo.
9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I think that really depends on how people build. The future of Sayulita can be guided by land owners and architects. I think that as long as homes are built by individuals, the town will continue to grow in a nice way. However, if large corporations and spec-home builders continue to build large cheap projects, then the overall quality of the village itself will be drastically reduced. Thus, I really believe that architects will play a key role in deciding the fate of Sayulita's future.
9. Cómo imagina Sayulita en 10 años? Creo que eso realmente depende de cómo la gente construye. El futuro de Sayulita puede ser dirigido por los dueños y los arquitectos. Creo que mientras se construyen casas por individuos el pueblo continuara a crecer de una buena manera. Sin embargo, si corporaciones grandes y constructores de desarrollos continúan a construir proyectos grandes y baratos, entonces la calidad en general del pueblo se bajara drásticamente. Entonces, yo creo que los arquitectos tienen que desempeñar el papel en decidir el destino de Sayulita.
10 Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? Yes. There are many educated and worldly people that live and own property here in Sayulita. These people have the opportunity to make a difference here in our village. They also have the knowledge and resources to assist with a positive change. So, I would like to ask that the people of Sayulita work with others (both nationals and foreigners) who have these "special resources" in a manner that helps us grow in a positive way. I would also like to ask those with knowledge, wealth, and power to utilize some of their resources to ensure our future here is a good one for everyone living in Sayulita; now and forever.
10. Alguna recomendación o comentario que quiera hacer a la gente de Sayulita? Si. Hay mucha gente educada y culta que vive aqui y muchos de ellos son propietarios aquí en Sayulita. Estas personas tienen la oportunidad de hacer una diferencia aquí en nuestro pueblo. También tienen el conocimiento y los recursos para ayudar con cambios positivos. Entonces, me gustaría pedir a los habitantes de Sayulita que trabajan con otros (ambos nacionales y extranjeros) quienes tienen estos "recursos especiales" que nos ayuden a crecer en una manera positiva. También me gustaría pedir a los que tienen conocimiento, riqueza, y poder que utilicen unos recursos para asegurar que nuestro futuro sea uno bueno para todos viviendo en Sayulita, ahora y en el futuro.
