For those who are driving down to Sayulita we want to remind you that because of all the rain this season, extra caution should be given while driving since sections of the highway has been severely altered with large bumps and giant holes. Parts of the road have even washed away entirely. You can expect plenty of roadwork and extra police and army checkpoints.
Polite cooperation is always the best policy at these checkpoints. Keep your documents hand and do not offer bribes "mordidas" since Mexican government is really stepping up its efforts to fight corruption. Always carry emergency numbers 01 800 903 9200 (tourists safety program) and 089 (equivalent of 911) to anonymously report of any sort of problems. Para aquellos que, manejando, regresan o vienen a visitarnos por primera vez a Sayulita, les quiero compartir los que he visto en el corto trayecto que manejo Sayulita-Tepic-Sayulita, cada fin de semana: en estos tiempos tan tormentosos, es necesario ser muy precavido al manejar, debido a que las torrenciales lluvias han convertido a las carreteras en caminos llenos de baches y grandes hoyos; en algunas partes la carretera incluso se ha caído al vacio debido a la gran cantidad de agua y el continuo paso y peso de los automóviles y grandes camiones de carga, así que esperen ver cuadrillas de hombres trabajando duro y a marchas forzadas para mantener, aunque sea un poco, transitables las carreteras mexicanas. Además, los deslaves que se dan también en la misma carretera, han causado un gran caos en el tráfico, puesto que en ocasiones han dejado sepultados por unas horas algunos vehículos o han cortado el paso en la carretera con grandes cantidades de tierra y, en algunas ocasiones, con enormes rocas de varias toneladas de peso. En algunos puntos se encontraran con retenes de soldados y/o policías en la carretera, lo mejor en estos casos es cooperar amablemente con ellos, puesto que estas personas solo están haciendo su trabajo.
Por todo esto mi mejor recomendación es: tenga a mano sus documentos y el de su vehículo; no transporte objetos ilegales (tales como armas, drogas aun de uso personal, animales en peligro de extinción, etc.); coopere amablemente con los soldados y policías que le hagan el alto en los retenes. No de "mordidas" puesto que nuestro actual gobierno federal y estatal están tratando de combatir la corrupción; tenga a la mano teléfonos de emergencia tales como:01 800 903 9200 (programa de seguridad para el turista); 089 para denuncias anónimas de cualquier tipo, así como también el teléfono de algún amigo o familiar en territorio mexicano. | Turtles set free in Sayulita

Last night, 30 local children and adults gathered on the beach just north of Terrazola Restaurant to watch approximatley 60 baby turtles being released. Alonso, a local workman, dismayed at the theft of eggs from nests started nightly beach patrols with four friends to stop thieves and move the eggs to a protected area. Despite being internationally protected turtles and their eggs are considered to be a delicacy. This is the first time in many years that concerned citizens in Sayulita have acted and we hope this will develop into a strong well-supported organization. Turtle releases will continue until about the end of November so stop by the beach around 7 p.m. to wish your chosen "tortuga" a genuine "Bien Viaje".

Alonso, un obrero local, consternada por el robo de huevos de los nidos se inició la noche las patrullas de playa con cuatro amigos para detener a los ladrones y mover los huevos a un área protegida. A pesar de ser internacionalmente protegidas tortugas y sus huevos se consideran un manjar. 3. Born in Sayulita? Yes, I was born here in Sayulita. My entire family is from Sayulita and the Bay of Banderas area.
3. Nació en Sayulita? Si, nací aquí en Sayulita. Toda mi familia es de Sayulita y la Bahía de Banderas.
4. Education level: I finished my 3rd year of secondary school in San Francisco.

5. Family history & information? I live with my wife Ma de la luz and my 3 sons Daniel, Luz Gabriela and Oscar.

6. Employment/business history: My parents were business owners as well and had stores and restaurants, so I worked with my parents growing up. Before opening the store I worked for a little while in construction. I helped build the church in the plaza and the reverends room behind the church. I have now owned the corner store for 15 years and over time we've expanded and remodelled it.
6. Empleo/Negocio/Ocupación: Mis padres fueron comercializantes y tenían tiendas y restaurantes, así que creciendo trabajaba con ellos. 7. One positive change you have seen in Sayulita?. There are a lot more opportunities for young people now in Sayulita. Years ago kids would have to go to San Francisco just to go to secondary school. It is also a lot easier to travel to Puerto Vallarta now with the new highways. People from Sayulita would not go to Puerto Vallarta very often and now anyone can go several times a week. I also think that when they installed the public pay phones that was a positive change and something the town needed.
7. Algún cambio positivo que haya observado en Sayulita? Hay muchas oportunidades para los jóvenes ahora en Sayulita. Hace anos los niños tenían que ir a San Francisco para estudiar la secundaria. Ahora es mucho mas fácil ir a Puerto Vallarta con las nuevas carreteras. La gente de Sayulita no iba Puerto Vallarta muy seguido y ahora uno puede ir varias veces a la semana. Creo que cuando instalaron los teléfonos publicos, eso fue un cambio positivo y necesario en el pueblo también.
8. One negative change you have seen in Sayulita? I don't think there are a lot of negative changes, only that during our busy season the town has seen petty theft. Petty theft in the store has become more frequent but all in all I think Sayulita is very safe.
8. Algún cambio negativo que haya observado en Sayulita? No creo que haya muchos cambios negativos, solo que durante la temporada alta el pueblo tiene mas delincuencias. Los hurtos en la tienda son mas frecuentes pero en general yo creo que Sayulita es muy seguro.
9. How do you imagine Sayulita in 10 years? I think Sayulita will keep changing for the better. I think there will still be a lot of tourism and developments and the town will keep growing. I think in time everyone in town will have better services.
9. Cómo imagina Sayulita en 10 años? Creo que Sayulita seguirá cambiando por lo mejor. Creo que habrá mucha turismo y mas desarrollos y el pueblo seguirá creciendo. En tiempo creo que todos en el pueblo tendrá mejores servicios.
10. Do you have a recommendation for the people of Sayulita? Everyone needs to help take care of Sayulita and maintain the magic of the town. We need to respect the environment and not litter. I think people who live in Sayulita don't appreciate it's beauty and it takes an outsider like the tourists who come to visit and fall in love with the town, to remind us that Sayulita is special.
10. Alguna recomendación o comentario que quiera hacer a la gente de Sayulita? Cada quien necesita ayudar en mantener la magia del pueblo y cuidar Sayulita. Necesitamos respetar el medio ambiente y no tirar basura por donde quiera. Creo que la gente que vive en Sayulita no aprecia su belleza y necesitamos que los turistas que vienen y se enamoran del pueblo, nos recuerde que Sayulita es especial.
