Thank you from PATAS Sayulita Animal Welfare

Thanks to all of you, our friends and supporters, PATAS SAYULITA, has had a great year. We have the highest donations so far, and during the March 2007 Clinic, 82 animals were sterilized. We also found families that adopted animals, and we still have some kittens for adoption if anyone would like a new pet.

Among the many donations we received are two magnificent art works from Cynthia Gillespy-Smith and Evelyn Boren. These works will be auctioned in our next fund raiser, a gala dinner in November. We also received some much-needed supplies for the clinic.
The funds received have allowed us to cover the recent clinic expenses and we still have some money to continue activities for the rest of the year. After many attempts to express my sincere gratitude to all of you who were involved in the last clinic, I found myself in front of a long list of names of almost everyone in the town!!!

In the past years there was such a small team of people working on this project it was easy then to mention all participants. Now a large portion of the Sayulita community has come on board,
which shows us that our community is gaining awareness and cohesion, not just in the PATAS project, but in all the important initiatives to improve our town. Thanks to all of your efforts, it will be possible for us to begin working toward our dream of having the equipment and the funds for a permanent animal shelter in the future.

Many ideas are brewing at present. Visionary friends have offered their generous support toward turning Sayulita into a town where all animals are respected and cared for. We will then be a model for others to follow.

I would like to share two stories from the March 2007 clinic.

One of our volunteers, Jerry Reickow, was bitten on the face by one of our patients, Biscocho. The concern spread like gunpowder through the Clinic. Mr.Reickow was taken next door to the health clinic where a wonderful nurse cleaned and dressed his wound. She also gave him a shot against tetanus. A few days later the gossip spread through town that the dog, Biscocho, had died, defending his virility.

Another story was that Mr. Reickow, who only wanted to place Biscocho on the operating table, had died. The truth is that they made peace with each other and are both doing fine. Mr. Reickow‘s face has healed and Biscocho will be making no more puppies.

There was also the “fight” over Nick & Damian’s pizzas. When they arrived, everything stopped, nobody wanted to work, just eat. Those pizzas are the best, as are all of the delicious meals donated by our restaurateur friends and many local kitchens.

The great food was a welcome reward to all of those who worked so hard at the clinic. When it was time to eat, we stopped working and got to know each other, and discovered that what bonded us was the love we all shared for animals, and for Sayulita.

To all of you who took part in our clinic, I offer my most sincere gratitude for your efforts. Without you the success of this project would not have been possible.
